Multiple Display Weirdness in Sequoia 15.2 (but sorted out)

Post by James Steele »

This is an odd one. I decided to update to Sequoia 15.2 since I was already on 15.1.1. After it booted up, I can't remember exactly how I got there, but it told me that my main display which is a Samsung 43" 4K TV connected directly to my Mac Studio's HDMI port was *mirroring.* Not sure why that is since there's a direct connection, but that's what it told me and I made the mistake of disconnecting it and had to go through the hassle of re-mirroring it first as an extended display and then changed it to my main display. I have two other monitors connected via TB>HDMI adapters. At first, also, it wouldn't let me choose the native 4K resolution and later it did. I still don't know how.

So now it all seems to be working after I had to re-arrange my displays again and then tweak the positioning until my DP Window Sets lined up correctly. (Why Apple does not let you see exact coordinates or save an arrangement I do not know) But now I have to live with a purple mirroring icon in my menu bar in order to use my Samsung TV as my main monitor. Again, why I do not know!!

James,
You can exclude the "mirroring" item in the menu bar in System setup so you don't have to be irritated by it. Nevertheless, the way 15.2 accommodates displays is unquestionably buggy, especially with HDMI connections. Hopefully, Apple will address this soon.

I cannot get my wife’s M1 MBAir to work with our Samsung TV — Mac sees the TV and it sees the Mac but there’s no picture. Aaaargh! Been too busy to deal with Apple Support on this one, perhaps this week. I’ve not updated it to Sequoia yet but will before I contact them. We rarely hook it up but it comes in handy for certain family activities.

No problem with her 2013 Air over Big Sur. That just works as it should.

Ahhh... thanks... found it! Bugged me. Wish we could get rid of the orange microphone icon in the menu bar also when running DP (or other DAWs), but just glad for this!
