...maybe they'll start taking orders in March, but release? That's something else:

Well...it does say "Both DP5 and Ethno Instrument are due for late March release."
That more than likely means it will be in the consumer's hands mid-April if released late March.
I wonder if it will be a downloadable upgrade...that could speed up delivery.

Typically, when MotU releases a major new Roman numeral release it's called an upgrade and not an update. With MotU, updates are typically free and downloadable and upgrades come on discs and there is a charge.

Can we place bets on this site? I bet the price of the upgrade that it will cost about $149 to upgrade from 4.5.midilance wrote:Typically, when MotU releases a major new Roman numeral release it's called an upgrade and not an update. In our hands in April? Hmmmm... not so sure I want to bet on THAT!

You can be sure there will be a new manual, so I would expect it to be a shippable upgrade vs. a downloadable one.
I hate PDF's and do not have a duplex printer, so as much as I love to save trees, for me there is no substitute for having eight fingers at different placeholders in a physical book and rapidly cross-reference items.
Maybe one of these days the software companies will learn how to make a software "book" interface that truly eliminates the need for hardcopy.

For current owners, if it is anything like previous upgrades, then I would expect the process takes a few weeks and works something like this:MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Can we place bets on this site? I bet the price of the upgrade that it will cost about $149 to upgrade from 4.5.

A few lucky souls on this site get their copy the first week after DP5 starts shipping. They follow up with posts (to cement their bragging rights) to this site, while everyone else here goes green with envy waiting for MOTU headquarters to draw our names out of the order upgrade hat.
After a few weeks we all have our shiny new DP5, and we all are glowing in our comments about the program. Then in late summer we get the first thread complaining about what's missing from DP 5. By fall, we have the first official DP6 wishlist thread.

Sounds like someone heard you before you speak!!! the DP5.1 wish list has already been started!!!

So it would follow that if you are running 4.61 it will be a free upgrade to V? Or would it be only for people purchasing within a specific window?barnee wrote:"If you buy DP 4.61, DP5 will be a no charge update"

When I decided to go w/DP, 4.6 just came out, so I may as well just wait a bit longer n buy V. I had a feeling they were saving something for NAMM.
Had to do the research thing. By the way, how are you guys who dont put your machine online get updates? Im running PC's for normal stuff, but my Mac is dedicated for music only, not online w/it, for awhile anyway.

That's too bad since all the viruses are tageting PCs, not Macs.ADino wrote:my Mac is dedicated for music only, not online w/it, for awhile anyway.

I used to do this (I have a Windows laptop and my DAW Mac used to be on the fringes of our DSL wi-fi signal). I used a USB flash memory to port license info back and forth. Pretty cheap and easy.ADino wrote:When I decided to go w/DP, 4.6 just came out, so I may as well just wait a bit longer n buy V. I had a feeling they were saving something for NAMM.

Since then, I moved my Mac. Now everything's wi-fi-ed here. If you can get your box online, it's much more efficient, I think.
