Converting Kurzweil disks
Greetings all, I just got my MachFive today and installed it into DP 4.6. I have been able to convert Akai and EXS disks easily but no luck with my Kurzweil disks. One of the main reasons for getting MachFive was to be able to load my Take 6 Kurzweil disk and I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me through the steps to convert it.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Converting Kurzweil disks
Can you add some specifics? I converted a bunch of my Kurz stuff when I first got M5, so I can attest to the fact that it works.Jim731 wrote:Greetings all, I just got my MachFive today and installed it into DP 4.6. Did you click the Kurzweil tab in the UVI Extract window after you inserted your sample disk?
Thanks for the response. Yes, I did click the KRZ button. I then selected the Kurzweil disc in the Folder browser, chose "Convert full disc" from the Disc menu, created a new sound bank and clicked "Convert". Nothing happens. These same steps with my Akai discs works fine but I'm obviously missing something here.
The Kurz stuff is quirky to figure out, but it can be done.Jim731 wrote:Thanks for the response. Yes, I did click the KRZ button. IIRC, on some of the Kurz programs, you have to go down the various folder levels at times to get the samples to load into the UVI window. If I get some time tomorrow, I'll retry my disks (it's been a while since I ran my conversions, so I don't remember exact steps offhand) and let you know what steps you need to follow.

Success!! At least at one level. I was unable in any way to get "convert full disc" to work with my Take 6 Kurzweil disc but I did have success converting samples from the disc.
After inserting the disc a drive icon appears in the "Folder" window labeled KRZ. You must then expand it (click on the arrow) and successively expand "Samples", and the individual folders inside "Samples" ("Sustains" ie.) until you can select the folders that contain the banks and samples ("AAH" ie.) Once you reach a level where something appears in the "Bank" window hit "Save" and the dialogue box will finally appear to create a new soundbank and convert.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

Jim, that's exactly what I had to do on some of the KRZ disks. Glad you were able to get it working.Jim731 wrote:Success!! At least at one level. I was unable in any way to get "convert full disc" to work with my Take 6 Kurzweil disc but I did have success converting samples from the disc.

Problems converting Kurzweil sound disks
I have gone through all the steps needed to convert Kurz disks to MachFive. The files all show up on the list and the process is simple and easy; however, once it's done, as I try to load, I get a big dialog window with an error message saying M5 couldn't load the samples, or that the samples have a very small size not usable by MachFive. It seems as if M5 cannot see the samples, but the presets and patches show up fine.
I've tried several ways to do this with no success.
Roland and Akai files convert flawlessly.

Re: Problems converting Kurzweil sound disks
Have you tried continuing to open and play anyway despite the error messages? Many Kurzweil patches referred to internal ROM sounds as well as ram or disk based sounds- but these small "sounds" don't neccessarily affect that sound or functionality of a translated sound bank. So things might be OK even with such a warning message for Kurzweil library stuff.ppojeda wrote:I have gone through all the steps needed to convert Kurz disks to MachFive. Converting Kurzweil CD's
Thank you for your reply, but I am aware of that and this is not the case.
These CD's are sample collection cd's from third party developers in kurzweil format. Once they load, the error message won't let me play anything. I think it has to do with where the sample and preset files are located so that MacFive can see them; however, I've tried several ways of allocating the files with no success.

Re: Converting Kurzweil CD's
The Kurzweil format is one of the most complex out there. You might want to consider buying Chicken Systems Translator if you have a lot of Kurz disks. I don't believe it can do a direct format from Kurz to Machfive, but going from Kurz to EXS-24 (which I know it will do), and then using UVI to convert from EXS-24 to Machfive might yield the results you are looking for.ppojeda wrote:Thank you for your reply, but I am aware of that and this is not the case.
