Is there a way to do this automation move in DP?

Post by philbrown »

Sorry - I can't figure out how to properly link the video...

The part I'm talking about is at 3:05 - 3:12 or so where he pulls the horizontal line down to zero. Is there any way to do that in DP? I would use it dozens of times a day if there was. Audio automation NOT MIDI.

TIA,
Phil

I don't think there's a way to do it exactly as he did in DP. However you can achieve similar results by setting the reshape mode to flat and dragging the reshape tool over the desired area.

I'm not that good with all of DP's tools to be honest, hence the question. Thanks for the tip, Phil - I'll look into the reshape tool.

Use the Trim tool (/) - it does the same thing... (User Guide p 361)

The difference is Reshape sets the curve where you click it, while Trim lets you drag the selected range up and down.

I need a reminder from time to time that the Trim tool does more than move the edges of Soundbites.

Thanks! I'll have a look at that, too.

Thanks, Bays. I need to watch that DP tools video again and take some good notes!

If you're trying to automate something like bypass in the video, it depends on the plug. i.e. if you instantiate Proverb in a track, add an automation lane in the SE for ProVerb bypass. You can select from a list of available params. In the bypass automation lane there are only two values that can be drawn with the pencil tool. Click in the upper half and a disabled value is created, click in the lower half of the lane and enabled is created. Not sure that's what you're looking for, but I that's what he was doing in the video.

Right you are. I was just using that example because it demonstrated the basic move, but I will be doing something similar, but with volume automation and not extreme on/off values of other parameters (which I also do a lot, but aren't a problem).
