Confused about headphone outputs on UltraLite-mk3
So the manual states that by default the headphone ouptut on the front of the UltraLite is basically an exact duplicate of the 1-2 main outs. However when I plug headphones in, I am hearing nothing through them. Is there something special I need to do to get audio out of the headphone output? I've been combing the manual and haven't found much of anything that makes this clear. I assume there's some kind of special routing I need to set up in CueMix? And once I have audio coming out of the headphone port, is there an easy way to mute the 1-2 monitor outputs? Thanks!
Re: Confused about headphone outputs on UltraLite-mk3
So I was able to kind of figure this out. I just had to set the "Phones" menu to Main Out 1-2 and now I have a headphone output that mirrors the Main output. But what if I want to mute my monitors and retain the headphone output? Thanks for any help!
Re: Confused about headphone outputs on UltraLite-mk3
No thoughts on this? Seems like it should be a pretty common thing, thanks!

I don't have the UltraLite, but I've been having the same problem with my MK3 for months. I've been getting up and walking behind my monitors to power them off when I want to use headphones. It's not terrible, but it's a pain when you go back and forth a lot in editing/mixing.
Actually one of the reasons I got rid of my Steinberg MR816 X was because it didn't have independent headphone outs. I believe this was recently updated in new firmware.
Heck, my old MBOX 2 Pro had independent headphone outs.
Of course I'm still happier with the MK3 feature wise, but figuring out this headphone thing would make it far superior!

Same problem here. I'm having to physically pull out the cables to my monitors whenever
i want to record.
All we need is a way to get the main audio from the DAW to the "main mix" and "phones mix" at the same time. Then if we mute main mix bus when recording, we still hear everything in the phones. We could also mute the mic channels in the main mix and only have them come through the phones mix to prevent feedback from the monitors.
How can cuemix be so complex and yet still lack this basic functionality?
It seems ridiculous to me. What's the point of having 8 mix busses if you can route DAW audio through them?

You can do this very easily in the DAW program you're using.TijuanaKez wrote:All we need is a way to get the main audio from the DAW to the "main mix" and "phones mix" at the same time. The leading cause of wrong answers is asking the wrong questions.

Re: Confused about headphone outputs on UltraLite-mk3
Ok so I use logic and ableton, the only way I can think to do this is in either is...
- Setup a new FX send
- Set the output of the send to the last pair of outputs which should go to the phones
- Set the FX send of each individual track to 0.db so the phones mix mirrors the main.
Although possible, I wouldn't exactly call it very easy. It also adds clutter to the DAW interface. Is there something I'm missing?

Yeah. I was wondering the same thing. Kind of chiming in here late, but my issue is this: what if I want to record using a microphone, and only want to hear the mix in the headphones and not have sound bleeding from my monitors? Seems a bit lame to have to power down the monitors to do this. I'm using DP7.1. I guess a separate mixer would do the trick?TijuanaKez wrote:Ok so I use logic and ableton, the only way I can think to do this is in either is...

I've posted a convenient workaround for logic & cuemix here.

To listen to just the headphones without the monitors then open Cuemix FX, Mixes tab, click on the drop down box under Phones and choose Phones 1 - 2 - Bus 1.
