Accessing Plugin Instruments

Post by lampfilmusic »

I downloaded a free VST instrument plugin and put this in the correct folder on my Mac.

1. When I open DP9.52, I try to add an ‘Instrument’ track, but then find that the new instrument is not listed. I can’t instantiate it.

2. It’s interesting that DP lists instruments by manufacturer from the ‘insert instrument track’ menu. How does DP identify the manufacturer from the instrument plugin? Is it by ‘required’ folder?

3. Both instruments and effects are kept in the VST or AU (etc.) folders, but instruments are called up as instrument tracks, and effects are called up to sit inside insert slots in DP Aux tracks. How does DP distinguish between instruments and effects if they’re sourced from the same folder(s)?

I’m thinking that the problem may be because I might have set DP to use only AU in this particular project file. I know one can’t use AU and VST simultaneously (unless someone knows a magic trick). :)

The plugin type and creator are encoded in the plug. You can use/enable both AU and VST/VST3 plugin types in DP. Just select what you want to use in plugin preferences.
