Wondering 'bout 32 Lives with DP10 and Mojave (10.14)...

Post by Kellog »

Hi. DP 10 is looking desirable to me. So if I upgrade my os to Mojave and get DP 10.1 (I'm currently on 10.13 and DP 9.52) , will I still be able to use 32 Lives? Its just Catalina that is strictly 64 bit yes, not DP 10? Thanks.

So far so good with 32Lives in Mojave. I'm still using B4-ii live with my laptop, no problems. MacOS has been fully 64bit for a few versions now, Catalina isn't anything particularly special. I'm not sure why they're reporting that it will no longer work. I suspect the team has just ceased updating it because there's so few 32bit plugs being used anymore. I still question whether they won't update it. They've done this before, and then 6 months later, they've got it working (seriously, they've done this like 2-3 times now). Still, it's best to phase out 32bit plugs on new projects. Just keep it around for legacy stuff.

I should mention that sometimes I have problems getting 32Lives plugin windows to remain visible. I can't remember whether this is with MainStage or DP, probably MainStage. Often clicking on B4ii controls makes the window immediately hide. 32Lives plugins have always had some interface issues. Luckily, I've never had one crash or have any audio hiccups.

Ok great info thanks Eric. And agreed, the plugin gui’s in 32 Lives have always been squirrelly for me as well - never disappeared, but they leave trails behind them when I move them around.
Thanks again!

Mojave, yes. Catalina, no. Works great with DP 10.11.

I haven’t used any 32bit pugs in a few years but there are plenty of old projects that have them. Thanks to 32Lives, they still open and play properly.

One of the reasons I’ll keep a Mac around running an older OS so that, if I have to update one of these old projects, I can hear what it sounded like through 32Lives after I update to Catalina so I can pick the correct replacement plug-in.

yeah, it has to 'wrap' the plug's GUI in it's own to display it- on some plugs, dragging the window leaves a ghost of the plug, etc.- seems like there's always a way to get it to work, tho... I just consider it a gift to be able to still use B4 II, Pro-53, etc.

Yeah, I was wrong about Catalina. Not sure why, I'm still not seeing anything particularly unique about Catalina's architecture. Obviously it's modified, but I suspect the 32Lives team could make it work if they want. They've said "this is the last one" for the last 3 versions or something. BUT I figure they finally made good on that, we're so far removed from 32bit, the percentage of people still bridging is probably far lower than financially viable to keep the project alive.

They claim it's because Catalina's entirely 64bit, but I thought that's been the case for a number of versions, El Cap or something. In any case, the 32Lives team has made that same claim before and come through. But by this point, I don't have much hope.

Hi guys, I'm trying to run a powercore x8 firewire with all 32bit plug-ins wrapped by 32Lives. Everything is properly installed and the powercore x8 connected and recognized. Plug-ins "ressurected" with 32 Lives. Now... DP10 doesn't seem to see the plug-ins in the folder... It doesn't even test them and they do not show up also in the plug-in preferences inside DP10. What is happening?
Thank you.
