Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
I would expect MOTU to first port its hardware drivers to the new Apple machines, then port DP and other software.

Is anyone actually running DP10.01 on a M1 Mac?

Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
I'm expecting a dumpster fire of nothing in terms of other software. We have MX4 in DP, but BPM, Volta, etc. have not been updated since 2014.. It's really too bad, they should just roll that tech into DP at the least..
M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.
Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
I can see why they wouldn't. Is there any real new sales likely to happen with all the new good cheap and free stuff that's around now? A product with no cash flow doesn't last long.Michael Canavan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 4:10 pmI'm expecting a dumpster fire of nothing in terms of other software. I suppose the thing to do for now is to keep an old Mac around to host these things and an outboard module / slave. I did that with an old UAD and a few old VIs for quite a while, hosting them on a G5.

Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
Yeah that’s what I plan on doing in general, keeping this a Mac Pro around for plug ins that don’t make it. Mostly my comment was directed at the fact that MOTU had pretty much abandoned it’s plug ins. Some of them like MachFive 3 were created in partnership with UVI, so it’s not likely there’s ever an update or a chance that MOTU can use the tech for a new product, but some are mostly in house like Volta, and they also are not kept up upgrade wise. IMO I suspect that the people who coded these plug ins are no longer working at MOTU. Developers I’ve talked to flat out say that it’s much much worse to deal with fixing someone else’s code than to start from scratch. Which is a solid reason why All DAWs have weird parts of their workflow that no one would think is a good thing, but they remain.bayswater wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 4:18 pmI can see why they wouldn't. I don’t know How long it will take to get DP to Apple Silicon Macs, but I’m going to be getting the 16” MacBook Pro with AS as soon as it comes out. The reports I’m getting back from a person I trust are outstanding for the Mac Mini. He started out as a Windows code guy, started using Macs for Unix servers and just bought a Mac Mini, he backs up all the initial reports about these machines, even saying in single core type operations like opening an app, playing a video game etc. are all super fast.

Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
Hi All,
I'm running DP 9.52 on my M1 MacMini under Rosetta 2 emulation and it behaves exceptionally well.
All Motu MAS plugins work and all of my Audio Units plugins work as well.
Check my signature for some of the plugins I have already installed.
Hope this helps,
PhireAlly

Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
Thanks for the list Phireally! All this makes it easier to think about switching when the 16" MBP's come out.
I think the main thing I'll miss is discontinued plug ins, (Camel Audio Alchemy comes to mind),but I have the Mac Pro for that.

Thanks. That's quite promising. PSP is not even listed in the Sweetwater site on compatibility, which by the way says just about nothing is compatible. When PSP is working, maybe I'll give it another try. Or maybe Apple will have moved on to the next version by then.

I'm pretty sure Apple Silicon is their final form. A 1.3 Trillion dollar company can afford to bear the cost of making their own chips even if they have to buy the company that fabricates them.bayswater wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 5:00 pmThanks. I'm referring to the next version of Mac OS. They update so often now, by time I'm comfortable moving over, they've lost interest and they're onto the next version.Michael Canavan wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 5:29 pmI'm pretty sure Apple Silicon is their final form. Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
For sure!

Both of those are also obviously shake ups due to Apple Silicon. Changes to the way code is written to make porting to Universal Binary 2 easy. When MOTU have Big Sur compatibility for DP etc. they will I would guess also be most of the way towards Apple Silicon compatibility.
The hidden issue is if you have a lot of dependancies on "depreciated" code, then the "hints" Apple sends are harder to keep up with, then it takes a while to port. Melda is a good example of a company that completely flipped out about all the code breaking and depreciation that Catalina brought, but because they actually did all the work, had M1 compatible versions of their plug ins out quickly.
I think MOTU deal with the issues that all companies deal with that have 20-30 year old products, mainly all sorts of things that are "depreciated" in their software that worked up until now. Some guy from NI flatly admitted that NI have serious work to do on all their products because of GUI frameworks that are 15 years old. MOTU aren't so forthcoming, but it's very possible they're dealing with similar issues.
M2 Studio Ultra, RME Babyface FS, Slate Raven Mti2, NI SL88 MKII, Linnstrument, MPC Live II, Launchpad MK3. Hundreds of plug ins.

Re: Digital Performer and M1 Macs...
I watched a video the other day in which the host demonstrated that Logic worked better (really well!) running under Rosetta 2. Have you tried that approach Mr. Ally?
