Connecting Sampleson Fire Piano Bass

Post by Gone To Lunch »

I have just acquired a Sampleson Fire Piano Bass which does not work like a normal plugin or VI.

There is no user documentation about how to install, or indeed anything.

It opens as a stand-alone ap, with options that relate to my MOTU 828 mk3.

I have set up the MIDI channel Ok, but I find that I can only get the sound out of the 828 Main out 1+2 option, which I don’t want to use, as I want to send the signal back into an aux for processing, mixing etc. Besides main out, the options are Adat optical and analog stereo pairs ?

So I must be missing something obvious ?

There is a Vienna Instruments MIDI option option, and when select that and open a VI pro 2, I see the notes playing on the keyboard at the bottom, but they are all greyed out and there is no sound ?

Panic over, problem solved.

The obvious thing I was missing was trying to use the stand-alone version as if it was the plug in.

Ho hum.

By the way, it sounds great - exactly that 'Riders on the Storm' sound.

I'm off now to iron my flares...

Does that sound include Jerry Scheff's (Riders on the Storm) bass? If you could switch that in and out, I could see that as a most useful VI.

Doug Lubahn, Larry Knectel, Harvey Brooks, Lonnie Mack were among the many bassists the Doors recorded with.

Hey GTL, I'm curious about the sound of the Fire Bass.
Glad to hear you got it working.

Thanks Mike...
For all these years I thought it was Ray's left hand on the cutdown Rhodes piano bass.
Fascinating info!
All is well

I don't know yet. I haven't explored it in detail yet.

To me it sounds exactly like the ROTS intro, and they play on this heavily in the promo vided.
