Reordering Plugin Folders in DP
Fellow 'Cornies, are we able to reorder them yet?
Still on DP8.07 and whilst I haven't fired up anything audio for a long time, one of, if not the only point of dread in the back of my mind is how I'm going to create and populate my preferred category folders.
I spent way too much time futzing around with this back in the day, mainly because new folders are placed at the bottom of the list and cannot be dragged to where you'd like them to sit (alphabetically in my case). This made the feature unusable for me 'cause I wasn't able to add new categories as they arose.
I can only hope that two integer updates later MOTU has fixed this, which is why I'm asking. Thank you!

Re: Reordering Plugin Folders in DP
Hola. Nicky!
I don't know about DP10, but in 9.52 it's still as bad as you describe in DP8, I'm afraid
A few years ago I did manage to put all my folders and plugins like I wanted, by function, but I did it all in one day… I don’t even want to know what I would have to do if I wanted to alter the “folder” structure now…
I remember doing it was painful and frustrating, to the point of asking myself “why did MOTU even bother with this quarter-baked feature?”
One nice thing, though, is that if you ever transfer your plugin structure to other computers by copying DP’s required preference, it will translate perfectly, and when you open DP in that other computer, your folders will all be there, populated only by the plugins that this machine has.
Nicky, if seeing your plugins by category / function is acceptable to you, I’ll happily send you my DP preference file, so you can monkey around with it. Perhaps it’s easier to adapt one that is already made with folders-subfolders that doing the whole (almost non-editable) structure from scratch?
I wonder what’s clumsier in DP…. Sorting the plug in folder categories, or renaming a big bunch of tracks. Or activating a lot of bundles by clicking tiles, perhaps?

Re: Reordering Plugin Folders in DP
Rebuilding the folder structure's the toughest, I reckon. If you have a lot of plugins (who doesn't?), then it's a nightmare IMHO.
Thank you for responding, 'Nandito. Hopefully someone will chime in and let us know if it's been fixed in DP10.
EDIT:
Oh, thank you for the kind offer, bud, but don't worry about it. We all have our preferences when it comes to category creation and naming, so whether I have to add categories to yours or rename any, the problem will still be there - I won't be able to reorder them.

Re: Reordering Plugin Folders in DP
I haven't noticed any change from 9.52 to 10.11. The best you can do is close all the other folders so User Categories is close to the top. You still have to plan out the entire categorization in advance to end up with the folder structure and ordering you want, and then when a new plugin comes along, the whole thing might be for nought.

Re: Reordering Plugin Folders in DP
That's exactly what I did. What took me probably a full day to do, it could've easily been done in a few minutes if the whole concept and UI were actually thoroughly thought out and programmed accordingly by MOTU. And stuff could easily be added later as you go, like Nicky wants.bayswater wrote:I haven't noticed any change from 9.52 to 10.11. Isn't there like an HTML file or something where all this stuff is saved that could be directly edited at least?

Good question. Maybe an xml file. I'll have a look.FMiguelez wrote:Isn't there like an HTML file or something where all this stuff is saved that could be directly edited at least?

Re: Reordering Plugin Folders in DP
I had a look way back when and IIRC I wasn't able to make any changes that worked.
For the record, I've been talking about folders within the user-category one, but what I've said no doubt applies across-the-board.
EDIT:
Thank you for the DP10 update, Stoivo. Too bad.
