No 23.97 DROP frame rate in DP??? [SOLVED]

Post by FMiguelez »

Hi.

I just received a QT with what is supposedly the good locked work copy, but of course, it comes in THE ONLY frame rate DP apparently doesn't have: 23.97 Drop Frame.

DP does have its equivalent for the 30/29.97 drop and non-drop rates. It's not even under the non-standard rates.

This is a film for movie theaters, not broadcast, so I don't know why the post house or the editor simply don't use the standard 24 fps.
If you know about this please let me know as a FYI thing.

Either way, how come DP, the film scoring star app, doesn't have that frame rate that they're sending me? Apparently it's not that uncommon at all...

Hmmm... Now I suspect I'm just a little misinformed about this.

Even without the "drop" setting, it seems to sync to perfection to the printed timecode of the QT. So either, they are in fact using normal 23.97 (without drop qualifier), the one DP does have, or I me no comprende what's happening.

I super fast search reveals, according to somewhere via Google:
Because there is no spec for 23.976 DF (which would define exactly which frames are dropped), the most reasonable assumption is to create the 23.976 fps . scc files in the same manner that NDF files are created (with the frame count not matching clock time).

Perhaps that's it?
