Movie audio not extracting

Post by Rusty Shackleford »

When option-clicking a movie in DP or clicking its options tab when in the sidebar, instead of getting the options to extract audio from the movie clip, I'm getting an error message - 'Unexpected error (1852797029)'. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Thanks for your input.

All movies of just one? It sounds like an incompatibility with the movie file format to me. If you have Time 7.6 or earlier, you might re-export and see if that fixes the problem. Are you hearing sound and is there a volume control run the DP movie window?

Thanks for you reply, MLC. Multiple movies. I hear sound in DP from the movie, and I can route it to a bus from the Sequence window; I just can't extract it. And every time I opt-click the movie window to try extracting, I get that error message. Haven't solved that yet, but I was able to click on the movie file from the finder window, choose DP as the app to open it and then it created the movie audio track in DP in the Soundbites window which I then dragged into my timeline. Strange. At least I have something workable until I figure this out.

Just tried the OPEN WITH trick. Only audio. Hmmm... might be a good short cut or when I only want the audio and not the picture. It also works to select the movie from the Soundbites window/IMPORT. That way you could be in your project with the current movie and just import the audio w/o the "OPEN WITH" PITA...

But the failure to get the contextual menu with the import (and perhaps other features) is concerning. It works perfectly here so I don't know how I'd troubleshoot it further, but at least you can just do the import to the project with the existing movie being undisturbed.

If you haven't already, there's two things I'd also do. Obviously, trash plists. Also, I'd create a new, temporary user and launch DP as that user. You might not be able top open the project depending on permissions, but I'd start a new project under the new user and add the movie to see if the contextual menu comes back. That would hopefully eliminate 3rd party issues in your user account.

I don't use the Movie feature very often.

I just tested it and I'm getting the same error message as Rusty.

No contextual menu available.
Error box comes up.
Same movie I used before in another DP project.

Tried it with a couple of iPhone movies too and got the same result.
Also, no way to set start time etc.

I do have a couple of basic, scoring to picture, gigs coming up and hope we can figure this out.
All is well

Waterstrum, it’d be helpful if you’d post you machine and OS specs.

Pretty sure it is a bug. I get the same error, and others have reported it here, too.

I submitted a TechLink on this one.

The key to gaining some functionality back is to open the Movie Track in the Sequence Editor window. You can clear the movie there.

If you need to extract the audio and Quicktime will open the movie, you can Export as Audio Only in QT, then drag and drop the file into DP.

ANYONE WITH THIS ISSUE: please submit your own TechLink to MOTU. Thanks!

Wow that’s a big bug to have remained this long. Will be contacting MOTU on this.

It must be something system specific. Certainly more than a few people here have reported movie window issues. I haven't run into them, knock wood. I'm still lamenting the loss of referenced movies and more "robust" export options. I wonder why both MOTU and Make Music (Finale) dropped movie options and used something other than the quicktime engine to do the exporting. And of sucks, IMO. Maybe it's a licensing thing? Anyone know? Hallorhan? :smash:

I have people send mov and mp4 files weekly.

If I open in QuickTime 10.5, one of the options in the Export menu is Audio Only....

This.

I just got a response from Matt at MOTU:
does this continue to happen in all projects or just with one specific movie file you're using? Does this happen with all movies you import? What about different video formats?

Perhaps you can send over a video that is causing this so that I can test it here on my system! This will be very helpful for diagnosing any bug that is present if it truly is a bug!
I tried three different video files: two .MP4 and a .MOV; same error thrown (-1) for all three. I sent a sort .MP4 to Matt per his request.

Same problem here, on both MacBook Pro and Mac Pro.

Trashed all preferences on MacBook Pro, AppZapped DP 9.52 and re-installed it, still no Movie Window mini-menu in separate movie window, consolidated movie window, and movie track in editor.

Interesting that you are running a 6,1 Mac Pro under Mojave. Please tell MOTU via TechLink. Judging from Matt's response, I'm not sure they are convinced it is a bug.

PS: The value of an informative signature has just been demonstrated. :D

Fixed: Conflict with at least two Camera Apps

Thanks for the heads up, svanjoolen!

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=66878&start=30#p573933
Hey Everyone,
Motu found a solution. I had installed EpoCam onto my computer so that I could use my iphone as a webcam and that was the culprit. So if you have EpoCam installed or any programs/software by Kinoni try uninstalling. If worked perfectly for me.

https://www.kinoni.com/support-and-instructions/
Step 4 in this link tells how to uninstall EpoCam. You have to use terminal.

If this does not work then really think of everything you've downloaded onto your computer in the past since the problem started. Especially those that deal with filming and video.
svanjoolen
I didn't have EpoCam on my Mac, but I DID have CamTwist.

I just uninstalled it (there is an uninstaller in the CamTwist Folder in Applications) and the Movie Mini-Menu now works like a charm!

So, at this point, at least two apps known to cause the issue: EpoCam and CamTwist.

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That did it! I tried uninstalling CamTwist yesterday with AppZapper, and that didn't help.

I saw this post, and downloaded CamTwist again, and in one of the folders there is a Terminal uninstaller. I did that, restarted, and voila, the Movie mini-menu has returned.

Massive thanks to everyone involved with this and their work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
