Re: I may have to upgrade to Catalina
I would need to try it on one of those new Macs that were released after October 2019. I don't know if it's possible but, since you are recommending making it a boot volume, I suspect the answer is No.bayswater wrote:But is there anything stopping you from creating a new volume and installing a different OS version on that volume? I've done that, adding a Catalina volume to a drive with Mojave installed. But would I have been able to do it the other way around? (assuming of course, the mac is able to run both versions).mikehalloran wrote:It cannot overwrite a later OS than on the boot drive.
If so, this an efficient solution because it only uses the space necessary to store the new OS version, not the space required for an entire partition.
It might work on a late model iMac since the release date precedes Catalina.
Even if it works, since it cripples APFS Snapshots and can cause other issues, I will never recommend doing that. Additional OS on removables, OTOH, I do that but I unplug them in case of a Snapshots restore.

Re: I may have to upgrade to Catalina
Yeah, it's been the bane of my existence for the past month. It used to be faster. I have 1Gb/300Mb internet here, but for some reason, it speed tests no higher than 10Mb to their HQ, so it's become a real problem. I've talked with their tech support but they haven't offered any solutions. I've even considered switching my ISP (I have the fastest now) or have someone try it out on a different ISP and see if they can get substantially better. It might become an issue down the line.

Re: I may have to upgrade to Catalina
Thank you sooooo much for this! I'm currently transitioning to a brand new Mac Pro. When saw here that Catalina didn't play well with Korg Legacy, I went into hysterics. Luckily, thanks to this info I was able to go through the bizarre and time consuming transition to Korg ID, buy the plugins one at a time, cutting/pasting the coupons in each one so they will be free.. but I'm not complaining, it works perfectly in DP!!CharlzS wrote:You can download the Korg Software Pass here: https://id.korg.com/static_pages/3Guitar Gaz wrote: I haven't found any update last month for Korg Software (I have the Legacy products of Wavestation and M1). Where did you see these updates?
The individual upgrades should be listed in your Korg ID account also.
If you didn't convert your Korguser.net ID to a Korg ID, I think you can still convert from https://korguser.net.

Ummm... not that he's wrong, but that kind of criticism wreaks of "old man yells at cloud". Not a great way of getting your point across by slinging names with low-hanging fruit (pun intended). That said, he might not be wrong.

His style is a bit over the top, but he's quite right in the substance of his comments on security. It's become intrusive and obstructive.BobK wrote:Lloyd Chambers, who writes mac diagnostic software and runs blogs about macs and photography calls Catalina a POS. He documents the issues in great detail on the blog, and posts comments from readers having similar issues. If you haven't checked it out, then you're doing exactly what you accuse him of - slinging names. I posted the link so you could check his info and see if it helps in your decision. Yes, his style is over the top sometimes and his usage cases are probably more demanding than those of many mac users. But he's very specific and detail-oriented.

I'll take a good look, and I have no slight against his methods. But the cute "Apple Core Rot" and "Catalina is a POS", understandably give me pause. I don't think that's an unreasonable reaction in the age of the troll soundbite.

Yes, outside of the context of his blog I can see how it might sound troll-like.Prime Mover wrote:I don't think that's an unreasonable reaction in the age of the troll soundbite.
But he's a serious user: here are his posts starting in 2013 that include that tag (both macOS and iOS):

I've experienced only a few of these issues. Some seem related to his specific hardware and usage cases.
