Windows 10 MOTU Audio Express Randomly stops working

Post by Warjone »

Hi!

I found similar topics with same kind of symptoms, but they didn't fully describe my problem, so i started new topic.

Somehow when i start my computer it is 60/40 chance that the Audio Express gives any sound out. Computer might see that the interface is plugged in, but it does not give sound out and videos don't play until i change audio-interface or i get Audio Express working by restarting it or restarting computer. Sometimes it stops working when i'm jumping on different softwares. Sometimes it stops working just by letting computer stand by itself.

There is no pattern it is just random, i might have to restart computer 3 times to get Audio Express working.

I have tested every usb port and same thing occurs, have updated latest firmwares and applications, restarted the whole system, uninstalled and reinstalled every application and driver. Does not help. Still throws audio out randomly.

This has been problem from the day i bought it and i learned to live with it, but now i'm starting to get annoyed by it.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this thing. I really don't want to buy a new audio-interface.

Thanks!

Have you burnished the USB cable? Disconnect and re-insert 5 times on each end. If going through a hub, do the same with each cable in the chain.

If that works, buy some DeOxIt and apply to the cable ends.

So far so good, 2 weeks has gone and it's been working good. I burnished both ends.

Edit. It did not work.

Hi!

It did not work afterall. It still does the same thing.

I noticed now, that my computer and DAW (Cubase) can detect it (MOTU Audio Asio) but it does not deliver any sound. And another point that i made, is that my tracks in Cubase, does not show any sign of sound in mixer console when i play it.

Windows also can detect the audio interface, but does not give sound out and let me play videos for example in youtube.

I can also open cue mix software that would not work otherwise the sound card is not plugged in.

I dont think this problem is related to cable afterall.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Both ends burnished and problem still occurs.

Hey

I am having the same exact problems. I think the driver has been made obsolete in the newer Windows updates, or something... If you find the MOTU driver in your "Device Manager", double-click on the icon and select "events" tab. Then, you will probably also see similar event messages as I have, stating that the driver is either "not migrated" or "requires further installation". I currently have the latest driver and firmware on my Audio Express.

I would like to hear from MOTU about this issue as I don't want to throw my interface out because the company doesn't update drivers for their hardware.

UPDATE:

I think I solved the problem. I reinstalled all drivers and firmware (of course). The driver then show up under "Sound, video and game controllers" header in "Device Manager". HOWEVER. I noticed that the MOTU interface showed up under the "software components" or "software devices" header in "Device Manager", as well. Cant really remember which one. Might also have been a "hardware components" header. Anyway, I had to double-click on this particular MOTU icon, go to "drivers" tab and select "update driver" -> "search windows for appropriate driver", or something like that. It then managed to connect my MOTU device to the MOTU software drivers.

Problem solved.

Hope this works for others having similar problems.

Best,

I feel your pain and frustration. Can't count how many years My Audio Express gave me similar problems and headaches.... Stayed the same through Win 7 & 10. Numerous times tried firmware update, reinstall, etc. Liking the sound of the AE,The solution for me was simple... Updated to the M4 - I cannot tell any difference in sound quality. It's so much lower in cost, easier to understand and operate, and insane how it's totally problem free now for me. My .02 anyway. Good luck with working it out!
