I'd never even heard of AVX until last week, but now it sounds like it's going to make 5,1s obsolete sooner rather than later. I suspect Massive is just the beginning. Why wouldn't all VIs start using this code if it makes them so much more efficient?

Because when it was introduced in 2011 only i7 chips had it, it would be new code to learn, and most end users wouldn't benefit from it. The Legend has both sets of code in it, Massive X is the first with just AVX code.

Just like VST3 it will take forever for it to be standard.

Very happy I took the plunge and the time to install Mojave, at long last. Scrolling in DP continues to delight, and I've worked several long days now without a crash (except a repeatable crash on quit which I resolved today by stepping one update back with BFD3.) Migration Assistant did a wonderful job moving my data and authorizations over, and my cheesegrater is now feeling really solid as it sits at the end of what is probably the longest series of supported macOS releases Apple has ever granted one of its products.

We'll see if the final Mojave edition, likely 10.14.6, tempts, but right now things are looking just peachy and I am a very happy camper. This Mac Pro certainly ain't gonna' be sailing to Catalina any time soon, though it's nice to know dosdude is already charting that passage for legacy Mac Pros.

That's normally a "get ready for the next OS" update plus a few bug fixes. I'm not hearing any differently with this one.

Me too. Apart from a few technical hurdles, so far I'm as stable as I was on El Cap (FYI if if Mojave asks you if DP can have permission to use "the microphone", the answer is yes. it took me quite awhile to figure out why DP wasn't getting any input from my I/O).

DP seems slightly slower, but it's minimal and mostly on redraws of MIDI-dense editors. On the upside, I'm (for a few months at least) in parity with all my Apple devices for, I think, the first time ever! Things like screen sharing and other compatibility streamlining and OS modernisms are nice to have again finally. Plus I'm seeing more and more software only compatible with newer OSs. I should be good for a bit with Mojave.

I should hope so (unless you wanna' futz with Catalina hacks...)

I figure to continue my "Computer as Appliance" approach, and run Mojave until my Mac Pros either expire or are supplanted by a new machine I can afford. We should have security updates for at least a couple more years.

PS: I still fire up the G5 Quad once or twice a year. No web surfing on THAT machine!

Well, I was on El Capitan until last week so it's unlikely I'll be tempted to monkey with Catalina...unless you do first :)

Three years per Apple policy, AppleCare and California law.

Sierra will drop off the list a few weeks after Catalina lunches. Apple will send a memo to large corporate and government users when the plug is officially pulled, normally early November.
