I Performered an Archive and Install.
Does that qualify as the clean install you metioned?....

Guys, I just talked to a Motu tech today. He told me that they could not duplicate this problem in house. But, they told me a couple of things to try to resolve the problem. Try to turn off auto beat detection. It is a processor hog and could be the culprit, at least in my situation. Make sure that Tiger is a fresh, clean install. Don't upgrade. That one is a biggie. Something doesn't translate right when you upgrade. I happened to buy a new Powerbook with a panther disc in the box, it was shipped right before before Tiger came out. Apple sent me an upgrade disc. A friend is going to give me his full install disc to try. He also said that it could help if one of us sent them a project that this problem is happening in, it might help them address the problem. They seemed very eager to help, and I'm going to send them the project I am currently working on. I hope it helps, as the problem came back and I lost a couple of good takes last night because of it. I'll keep you guys posted.

No, I think a clean install is a format and then zero out your disc, then install everything from scratch. You don't really have to zero out more than once though, it takes forever on an 80-100 gig drive. I have to say that I did exactly as Motu said to do and I tracked for 8 hours today. Not one single problem! All that I did was install everything the way I described it above, and then I setup DP. I turned all of the analyzation settings to never or off (beat detection, etc.). I am really happy. This setup is the best yet. Tiger and DP are really responsive and snappy, and I did not have one single beach ball! I know it is alot of work but if you do it you will be satisfied. Good luck everyone.

If an archive and install does a clean install then yes that is ok. They don't want us upgrading from 10.3.x. I'm relatively new to OSX, I am an IT guy during the day(pure hell after using mac for a year, but Mr. Gates is doing his best to keep me employed!) and never did an archive and install. I have to say that the clean install did the trick, no problems here anymore.

I'm having spikes in a dual 2.0 eventhough the processor is running under 50%- (tiger 10.41, DP 4.52) Are you guys suggesting to reinstall DP, Tiger, both? I just got done reauthorizing all my VI and plugs and I don't really want to wipe out everything and start again.

I also was having spikes in tiger. I then did a clean install (zeroed the drive and everything) and reinstalled on the fresh drive. Now it is unbelievable! Sooooo stable, no glitches whatsoever. Even my firefaces behave better now. I strongly suggest a clean install AND only install the bsd subsystem, or the essentials. In custom install just uncheck everything, and the greyed out option is the only thing you need to install. My dual 2.0 ghz with 2.5 gigs of ram is smoking now.
I'm facing the same problem as described here above, so I'm going for a clean install sometime this summer...
How do you 'zero' a disk 'and everything'. Will I be able to do a clean install from my upgrade disk? Do I need additional software for this?
Hope you guys can answer.
