Audible MIDI note-off click:

Post by banditblack »

I've gotten completely away from hardware-based synths but have been borrowing a Roland XP-50 keyboard rig for a Project...and I've just never had this issue before, and can't finfd anything in the manuals of DP or the synth to explain it. I've gotten it hooked up, reconfigured MIDI set-up, and am able to record and playback both MIDI and audio. I'm getting an audible "click" like the error sound when I lift off the keyboard note..so I'm assuming it's a "note-off" signal.

Someone suggested I updayed to the latest MIDI drivers, I did. I've updated everything Motu that I can while still running DP 7. Any suggestions? I hooked up headphones to the Keyboard and the sound is not coming from the Keyboard, just my above rig....and the sound is also produced when I use an Alesis Q25 usb MIDI controller that I've used forever. And it goes right into the G5 usb, not the ultralite.

OS X 10.9.5 Dual 2.4 Ghz Quad-core Xeon G5
6 GB DDR 3. DP 7, Ultralitemk3 Hybrid all updated firmware.

I don't have much to offer, but when you mentioned "error sound" are you referring to the OSX error sound or something specific to your system?

The only other thing that comes to mind is maybe, "after touch".

You might look at your MIDI input filter to disable all that you don't need.

Just a few thoughts...

Edit: And you might check your XP-50 and make sure "local" is turned off and that it's only receiving one MIDI channel. Unless you're using it for more than one channel.

Also, check your MIDI configuration and make sure that the instrument details are correct.

The motu tech responded saying that it sounded like the "Test MIDI configuration" option button was enabled...which makes sense as it it close to the same sound. But the test button is not engaged. I also deleted, and reconfigured a new MIDI configuration and never tested the system and the sound still exists. Does anybody know if I need to trash some configuration Preferences, or clear something?

I wonder if there isn't a COMMAND that might be connected to some MIDI event, and the COMMAND itself is causing the error blip. You could open the commands window and turn off the masters and see if it persists.

What, exactly, is being generated on note off?

Okay..kind of an update. Went through and started switching G5's audio output preferences. Long story short, the sound is coming from the G5 thru the audio out jack to external speakers...but not my studio speakers which are connected to the Ultralite only. When I switch the Mac G5 to "internal speaker" built into the G5, the sound goes away. So somehow my G5 is getting a MIDI signal from the Ultralitemk3(firewire) or my Alesis Q25(usb) which are connected to my G5, and putting it out through the audio out?

Sounds like you are getting close to resolving the issue.

Just to note... I think your "G5" is a Mac Pro. :D
