DP 9.5 install on multipartition mac

Post by Klaus »

Could any one confirm please that on a multiple partitioned Mac the current DP 7.24 installs will not be affected when upgrading to DP 9.52 on one partition ?
Thanks
and best regards

I don’t have a definitive answer but I’d be leery of it. My concern would be for conflicts in the preference files the two versions might share, especially in the area of MOTU Audio preferences. I believe DP 7 still uses the QuickTime export engine for bouncing movies. DP 8/9 uses MOTU’s proprietary engine with much lost in terms of BTD options. Hopefully I don’t know what I’m talking about and you’d be fine, but I’d wait for Halloran to respond as he would likely have a more definitive response.

Do you need to delete 7.24? No. Do not expect it to work properly after you install 9.52, even for an evaluation, until you reinstall 7.24 again (and then 9.52 won’t work properly). I recently tested this on another thread.

If you run the 7.24 uninstaller (it’s in the Installer drop down menu), it will remove system resources from any other version of DP you have installed. So, after running it, reinstall 9.52.

The only workaround is to have 7.24 installed on one boot drive and 9.52 installed on another.

Exactly
I leave my other partitions with DP 7.24 and will uninstall DP 7.24 on the one where I will install DP 9.52
Thanks for clearing up
and best regards

If you have DP 7.24 on one partition, and will install DP 9.52 on another, and only run the DP that is on the partition you start the Mac up on, there will be no interaction between the two installs, and all will be fine. I have three partitions all with different OS X and DP versions so I can make sure old stuff keeps working while I try out new stuff, and that all works well.

I thought to demo DP 9.52 while I'm in Prague during my time off but the demo needs activation too...
And the DP 9.52 installer has no uninstall option for earlier versions...
or maybe I'm missing something ?

It asks to authorize. If you don’t, it goes to Demo mode.

7.24 was the last version to include an uninstaller. Later versions are uninstalled manually. Thre’s An old post on how to do that if you must. Normally, this is not an issue—newer versions overwrite older.
