Aux Ch. Plug-in issues with 9.52: Slate & Kush RESOLVED

Post by rob fetters »

Hi,
Question: Anybody have issues with Aux channel inserts behaving differently with plugs than individual audio tracks?
Moved up to 9.52 from 9.02 last week. Everything worked swell in 9.02.
I run my mixes through a "Premaster" Aux channel immediately preceding the Master mix buss; I've done it this way for years. On the "Premaster" I currently insert Slate VMB, VBC, VTM, Voxengo Polysquasher and Elephant, MOTU MW EQ, Kush UBK-1 and Clariphonic MII... just tweak that stuff till everything gels. I have 10 plugs in that insert panel, including Voxengo SPAN.
With 9.52 I get processor spikes/audio glitches I thought came from the Slate VBC in the Aux. Bypass it and spikes stop.
Contacted Slate and they couldn't replicate it. Then I discovered the issue might be Kush Clariphonic MII. When I inserted the legacy Clariphonic... no more spikes and VBC worked fine.
All these plugs work fine on mono or stereo audio tracks but gum up the Aux.
I should mention there is an issue with the Slate U37b plug spiking on VMR so I don't use it on any tracks.
Also, Slate VerbSuite seems to work better than it used too.
Sorry for lengthy post, just don't know where problem lies.

Due to the empathetic and loving response I received... zero... I'll explain how I finally got my stuff working:
First, had to get my head around the 9.1x Next Gen pre-gen protocol. Duh, missed that on the way from 9.02 to 9.52. Aux track plug-ins are real time only. It's the law. (Was it always that way? And while I'm at it – when did the freckles on my hands become liver spots?)
Thus, they eat up CPU, sometimes aggressively. 'Specially if the name is Slate or Kush.
But they are not to blame!
... IT'S... THE... RUSSIANS!
Er... I mean... it's meStoopid, PhD – who forgot that brilliant Valeksey Vaneev at Voxengo allows users to set oversampling anywhere from 1X - 8X. I had my Voxengo plugs at 4X. Considering I usually record my DP projects at 24bit/88.2kHz – I was killing my computer. I set the plugs to "auto" so they kick in at the right speed for bounces and dang if my ol' 'puter ain't spittin' out purty toons once agin'.
Thank you MOTU & Slate & Kush tech support... and Valeksey. Peace On Earth. :rtfmmad:

I did read your post. We don't have all the answers. Also, sometimes it takes more than 48 hours until someone sees your post who has some suggestions. I'll stick my neck out and say even the smartest people here probably couldn't have solved your very specific and intricately woven issue.

Got it, Phil – thanks. In the context of my post (including the emoji) I hoped it was clear I was having fun pointing the stink finger at none other than myself. Again.
Although I held the dubious honor of being the first user to chance upon a bug in DP about 20 years ago, any flies in the ointment ever since usually turn out to be me.
