I'm confused about Tiger and DP. Can someone shed some light

Post by tdm71 »

I have a rock solid system with 10.3.9 and 4.61 with lots of softsynths and fx plugs. Now if I decide to upgrade to tiger do I have to update all my stuff to the latest updates or since DP is already Tiger ready and I use the plugs in DP as the host and not in standalone mode, do I still have to go through the whole upgrade process to make sure everything works???

I have heard conflicting reports on this. Some say that as long as your host is stable then everyhting else will work within it and other say it has to be upgraded to "tiger" status. :?:

Can anyone confirm this for sure???

If you are going to take the Tiger plunge, I would highly recommend updating all of your software to the latest versions. Your stuff will probably still work under Tiger, but the new versions have all been optimized for Tiger. Also, make sure you get on OS 10.4.2 or 10.4.3 - there were some glitches between apps under 10.4.0 and 10.4.1

my opinion:
always wait until os x.y.9 is being released, than upgrade and be confident for another whole year!
Or: never change a running system until necessary

Here is how I do this ....

First - I use multiple hard disks .....
Second - I carbon copy my entire old disk ( making an image of it )
Third - I recopy this image to a fresh second hard disk
Fourth - I boot on the second hard disk and verify that everything works
Fift - I update the OS and bingo .....normally it works ....

This is my way since long time to work on computers ...

Yes I concur with this.

I also recommend SuperDuper! for disk cloning -- a little more user friendly for those who are scared/confused by Carbon Copy Cloner
