Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time-Solved
Playing around with the new pitch shifting features, I tried ZTX Formant Corrected and Relative modes. A bar appears at middle C superimposed over the soundbite in an Audio track. I found I can drag this bar up and down and get real time pitch shift for the entire track or soundbite. If I hold down the Command key, I can drag it by partial tones. In one of the Info windows, it displays how much I've moved the bar. E.g., it starts at 60.00 (Middle C) and changes to 60.07 if I move the bar up 7 cents. So that's very useful.
But, the question: is there somewhere to type in how much I want to shift the pitch? Or some other means of shifting by a specific number of cents in real time. Dragging the bar with the mouse is not precise enough to get a specific amount without a lot of fudging around. I see I can set the amount in the Spectral Effects window, but this does not work in real time. I want to be able to bring in a soundbite someone has sent me and "tune" it to the other tracks in the project that have come from other sources, and do all this as the track is playing.
Maybe there is somewhere else I ought be trying to do this?

Can that be done in Melodyne?

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time
Probably. I have a specific use that makes that impractical. I want a simple template I can drag an audio file into, then adjust by cents, the pitch for playback. I can do this very quickly and easily in Logic, but would rather do it in DP because that's open all the time anyway.mikehalloran wrote:Can that be done in Melodyne?

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time
Bayswater, I had a second and I took a look at a project that I'm working on.
Dunno if this will help much, but if you select a soundbite and then go to Region>Transpose (or Command 9) the Transpose window appears.
On the top right, select (or make sure that the box is checked) "Transpose Audio".
Select "Interval" from the 4 choices.
Then you have a choice of "Fine-tuning" the soundbite audio in cents...sharp or flat.
Hope that helps!
Buzzy

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time
Thanks Buzzy. That does it. I thought this command was a background thing -- not real time. It's odd, I tried the same thing in the spectral processing window and it took a few minutes to process the soundbite. Transpose works immediately, and sounds as good for a few cents. I would have expected the two commands/windows to do the same thing.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Realtime during playback...! Was just on sale. Maybe it still is?

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time
I had asked before whether the IRCAM plugin does things you can't do with the functions already in Mach Five but didn't hear anything.
Anyway, what Buzzy suggested does exactly what I wanted, as does the pitch change plugin included in Logic.

If I had time to do a 90 minute walk thru of all it does, I'd have posted one. lolbayswater wrote:I had asked before whether the IRCAM plugin does things you can't do with the functions already in Mach Five but didn't hear anything.

Are we talking about IRCAM time stretch; changes tempo and pitch independently? Much the same as Mach Five?MIDI Life Crisis wrote:If I had time to do a 90 minute walk thru of all it does, I'd have posted one. lolbayswater wrote:I had asked before whether the IRCAM plugin does things you can't do with the functions already in Mach Five but didn't hear anything.

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time-So
Yes. There are seperate slider for pitch and "stretch" so changing the pitch does not affect tempo.

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time-So
I've been using the IRCAM TS2 for a while as a standalone.
For my ears, it is the most transparent way to shift full stereo mixes in time or tempo.
I don't think it is available as a plugin, but that would be very cool.

Apparently, still as a standalone only.waterstrum wrote:I've been using the IRCAM TS2 for a while as a standalone.

Re: Setting a Specific Amount of Pitch Shift in Real Time-So
I've been very happy with the new DP algorithms. I've done some significant pitch and time manipulation on mixes and the results have ben very good. Still using the old algorithm when tuning vocals, however.
