Grace period info

Post by apanacci »

Hey guys, just wondering what grace period MOTU gives for upgrades. The reason I am asking is I upgraded to WaveLab 9 Sept the 17th, registered it on the 21st. They just brought out 9.5 and so far they are not letting me upgrade for free. Just wondering what other companies do, thanks !

I know this sounds crazy, but you know who would have the correct answer?

MOTU.

But, to be slightly helpful, I don't think MOTU has a set time frame: what I've observed is that when they announce final development on the next version, you can buy the current version now and cont on the upgrade for free.

But you should ask MOTU about that.

Jim gave the correct answer.

Traditionally, however, MOTU announces new versions at Winter NAMM in January. Everyone who purchases DP from that point gets the current shipping version then and the new version at no additional charge when it ships. If they’ve ever allowed an additional grace period before the NAMM announcement, I’ve never paid attention.

I remember taking advantage of that one year but don’t recall if it was 4.5 to 5, 7 to 8 ... Perhaps I did it twice.

I’m not speculating on whether DP 10 will be announced in January but it is less than three months away.

The reason why is probably that 8.5->9.0 cost $59.99.

If you waited and upgraded from 8.5->9.5 then it would cost $149.99.

Very likely why you're not getting a free upgrade, it costs more!

Robert you are correct sir. I just missed the grace period. I paid $100 us being Canadian much more for me. I will upgrade when WaveLab ver 20 is released.

Safest bet is what Mike H said, wait until at least Winter NAMM and see if they announce DP 10 then. If they do, then you will get 9 in the meantime, and 10 when it comes out. At least that's the typical practice.

They IMO should be announcing DP10 Jan 2018 NAMM; it's been the typical amount of time between upgrades, maybe even a little longer.
