Got that email today. Looks good. I have SD2. The $209 upgrade price is a little bit "ouch" (was expecting maybe $149/$159) but oh well. I'll never use the surround capabilities (11.1?) but hey...

Right? Only thing is I watched their product video and they mentioned eleven point surround.

Oops, sorry, I posted bigger comments in the general forum as I'm trying to remember that DP is dual-platform now and that dual-platform VI's might best belong there instead. It's a tricky one as we also talk about usage specific to DP workflows.

SD 2 is my go-to acoustic drum VI, so SD3 is a total no-brainer for me.

Lovin' the audio-to-MIDI feature.

235GB

Audio to MIDI sounds interesting, but why mixing genre presets ? Seems like tweek heaven, and then provides presets? I wouldn't mind them, just wondering what they are thinking.

235 GB shouldnt be an issue if you have
adequate drive space. With every add-on/expansion
pack, BFD easily comes in at over 1 TB.

And to be fair, the basic core library for SD3
comes in at around 40GB. The rest of the
data is the room impulses, mic bleed samples,
and surround stuff. You dont have to install
all 235 GB..I wont ever use the surround data,
so that will save me some disk space right there.

Why presets? Many customers don't do any
editing..they want things pre-mixed for them.
I know..its anathema to those of us who love
to "roll our own" but realistically, we live in a
plug-and-play, copy-and-paste, select-a-preset
world.

Looks like Toontrack on steroids, and I mean that in a good way. I own Toontrack, SD2 and Addictive Drums and I end up using TT the most because of its abilities to build a track quickly. The new MIDI editor is just what's missing in TT, plus after I build a track I remap the sounds to either SD2 or AD. Can't wait.

Do you mean EZ Drummer? Toontrack is the name of the company.

Sweetwater is advertising the upgrade for $199.

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/search ... +drummer+3

The core library on SSD is a $199 add-on. You purchase the SD3 license separately. Uh... yea...

I dont think that is the case.$199 is the upgrade
price from a previous version of Superior
Drummer (SD2 for most people). There is
no separate charge for JUST the license with
no content.

The Sweetwater SD3 page is confusing, I'll
say that.
