External effects with DP and 828mkii
OK. I've got the routing going with CueMix, but isn't it possible within DP alone? When I set up an audio track within DP and send the signal to my external device via a DP mixer send, it doesn't get sent. What am I missing?
This is a familiar scenario and makes sense in the context of my work habits but seems to be beyond my limited skill with DP and my new 828mkii.
Thank you very much and may the new year be kind to us all,
Glenn

Did you turn the knob to adjust the amount of gain going out?

What version of DP, OSX, and Firewire driver?
Do the normal channel outs work?
What if you create an Aux track, set its output to a channel on the 828 and its input to, say, bus 1. Then set the channel send's output to bus 1?
Are you using a post-fader send? If so, is the channel fader up?
Are the plugins on the Inserts of this channel? If so, which ones?

Try sending it out using the input\output and the bottom of each track in the mixer view.... At least if it works that way, your closer to nailing down the issue.
I just tryed it both ways without a problem on my system.

Happy New Year, everyone! Thanks for your responses, but so far no luck.
I'm using OS X, version 10.4.3 and DP, version 4.6.1.
I'm not sure of the Firewire driver version.

I'm glad to hear that its do-able, and sorry it doesn't on my system.
My external device's inputs are plugged into the 828mkii's analog 7-8 outputs. Its output returns to analog 7-8 inputs.
When I send audio directly out to 7-8, via the bottom of DP's mixer per suggestion, then my external device gets the signal as anticipated, yet when audio is sent to the 828's main out 1-2 and I try bussing the signal to my external device via the DP channel send, set to 7-8, then the device doesn't get any signal.
As I mentioned, using CueMix gets the job done so I'm confident in my hardware connections, but I'd prefer to do this using DP alone.
Thanks for all the help!
Glenn

I am doing something so wrong!
I've realized that when I create an audio track in DP, Analog 1 as input and Main 1-2 as output, then apply an insert effect to the track, there is no effect. The channel needs to be record enabled in order to hear anything, but I assume this is normal.
I'm migrating from using my G5's standard audio input to a new 828mkii. Could this be relevant somehow?
I've got each of CueMix's four bus outputs disabled. Is this relevant?
Thanks again.

I am not sure if I am missing something. Are you trying buss it out of DP before it is recorded or after.
Why disable CueMix? Is it in the way?
If your external device is getting the signal, turn CueMix back on to see if it is reaching the 828 inputs. Maybe you external device isn't setup properly. If you hear it in CueMix, maybe you don't have "Audio Patch Through" selected.

Good suggestions but I think I've found my problem.
Setup>Configure Audio System>Input Monitoring Mode>Monitor record-enabled tracks through effects.
I had assumed Direct hardware playthrough was the way to go with the 828mkii, but it seems like I assumed wrong.
My system now seems to working well enough. The audio channel now has its inserts and sends working properly.
As for CueMix, its not really getting in my way, but I really don't need it at this point. Probably because I'm not so far from clueless!
I really mean it, its great having my questions so well considered.
Thank you all.
