Best Pitch Shifter or Spectral EFX

Post by NealF »

Hi,

I've never been able to get the spectral effects to sound good without artifacts. Even with small changes. It warbles and gets spitty, etc.

Are there any plugins that do a good job. Need to make my voice sound like different people. Cartoony is okay, but without all those artifacts.
Thanks.

Wow. Tall order. It depends what you are trying to do and how radical you want to get. Download demos and see if any of these will get you there. I own copies of most of these but, without knowing what you are really trying to do, it's hard to recommend one over others.

Digital Performer has a few goodies built in for starters including Pitch Shift. Time stretch/compress works but produces a lot of artifacts if you push it, however.

The Antares AVOX plugs can be useful.

Auto tune 8 has some interesting, creative features. It can be used as a plugin but you cannot automate it in DP for Mac but you can in Logic Pro.X. AutoTune is incompatible with DP for Windows.

Isotope Vocal Synth is bundled with a number of products and available on its own. If you own some already, upgrading to bundles that include it can be cost effective.

The IRCAM tools are capable of pretty interesting things when it comes to morphing audio. Available on their own, versions are part of UVI Falcon, MachFive3 from MOTU and other products.

I've used an iPad app for manipulating voices with some pretty good results.
Don't know what the app was off hand though.

Thanks.

Hadn't thought about using my iPad for this.

I have a VHT amplifier that can use my iPad or iPhone in its effects loop. It works pretty well—even with my 7+ through the headphone adapter.

Unfortunately, VHT has discontinued this series. The two i-16 and i-66 (head only and combo) are left and can be ordered from a Music Link dealer (Recording King, Loar and other brands).

I agree Mike. I use Spectral to only shift no more than one note higher or lower. Any more is almost useless. We need major improvements and have needed it for years on this effect.
