Yes but I think it's better to use a lynx sycronizer and let the machine do the slaving due to deck speed shifts.
Can a MTPAV send TC out?
Sorry about the OT bit here but it's just one question.

The point is to realize there will be a % of our complaints on this forum, you know, CPU spiking etc., that are mainly due to not having 2 processors which is what is really needed to do the job without ONE comp having various failures.

What's the point?
The technology changes sooo fast (as does the software)
that eventually it'ss be the equivalent of 3 G5's (or whatever they're called in the future)
I guess it's a question of being productive with the tools you have on hand now.

Splinter,
It's not about being brats.
I started this post to have us all realize we are OVER taxing our systems in todays VI bonanza.
Thus, we should all have a focus on the fact that one machine may well be insuffient when discussing various cpu related problems.
The other point of this post is my utter amazement at the relatively short time it took for us to all hit the speed limit of our amazing G5's.
The professional amongst us still get great work done, but, waiting 9 minutes for a freeze etc...is a pain in the ass in current terms. Just as splicing was a pain in it's own day.

Wow, can you imagine rewinding tape (or threading tape, for that matter), or only having 24 tracks, or only having one boutique EQ or comp you had to print to get another "instance"... get some perspective dude! Some of the best records of all time were recorded live to wax (mono), or 4 or 8 track. To call them unprofessional is, well, flat out stupid. Tons of professional recordings have been and are being done with technological limitations. Real professional work is not being without limitations, but creatively working within the limitations and producing stellar results.Originally posted by Rush909:
One machine is not enough to get anything professional done if you are hitting walls... with time constraints, creative flow, crunch time... I don't want to be hitting any walls... and with one G5, the walls get hit really early for me.. on certain projetcs... Anything with a lot of VIs and you are pretty much out of luck with DP...
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for technological advances, but that has no bearing on my ability to do professional work. If you have to have 50 VIs with 30Gb samples instantly accessible at the drop of a hat on one machine, your expectations are ridiculous. Try to produce that in hardware and you'd have a machine room the size of your house and hundreds of thousands of dollars invested.
Boy, we've become a bunch of spoiled brats. Boundaries are the seeds of creativity, not insurmountable walls that limit our abilities to produce professional results.

Dude...
This thread is NOT ridiculous.
Why is coming to grips with the necessity of two machines ridiculous?
It is a much needed understanding when we look at so many threads dealing with cpu complaints.
think your characterization as "ridiculous is ill conceived.

This is a thread topic?
I'm totally with you. It is a pain to hit the limitations of your system and I AM sympathetic to that. (Shoot I'd just settle for not having the limitation of constant CPU spikes and crashes!) But I'm NOT sympathetic to all the bitchin' and moanin' about how bad a Dual 2.5 G5 is because I can't run 3 orchestras and 40 tracks of audio simultaneously off the same machine. That's where people need to get perspective. If you have to work that way then accept the limitations of the current technology and buy another G5 or a PC, but otherwise this thread is ridiculous.

Fair enough.
M point was simply hardware will be (often not always) barely
ahead of software in terms of the computer power needed to
run it.
This is a fairly cyclical conversation don't you think?
Three years from now, (when where all running Pentium macs)
I wonder what the minimum requirements will be for Digital
Performer/VI's etc.
I think the question will always come up, and I think that's part
of the reason Digidesign will keep selling Protools.
Fair enough.

Ahhhh... It does my heart good to see the natives get wrestless over such things...
The processing card for plugs is one concept i have been screaming about for a year now and it would be great!!!
The future, 'may I be so bold to name', "524 card" that processes MOTU AU plugs would relieve the CPU for VI's and make us all cheery again., ...for a while anyway.

Slave, I respect this.... kind of. I know guys with 10x the advantage over me in equipment, and they still can't make music that sounds nearly as good. If we were talking about mixing secrets, or something like that, I'd be more apt to understand where you're coming from. I just really don't think that divulging how you hook up macs is going to cause you to loose some biz to some of us. What you do with the gear is far more important than what gear you have. I'd be out of work for sure if people could buy there way to making great music. But, hey, you can say as little or as much as you want to say.As much as I'd like to talk about my system. I'd be a fool to lose

And, I have to say, I'm suspicious that you're even running 3 G5s. I did a search on supernodes, and I can't really find anything that could possibly used for purposes we are discussing here. BUT, I could be wrong
