Playback Processor Overload

Post by VKM »

DP 4.61
G5 Dual 1.8 GHz / OS 10.4.2 and tried OS 10.4.3
2 GB RAM
MOTU 828mkII
MOTU MIDI Express XT

During playback, I keep getting the "Audio Playback has overloaded your computer's processor..." message. This will occur during Playback that contains no audio data. In fact, it will occur without MIDI data present as well. Just simply pressing the play button, the program will start pausing and playing at random, then the dialog box appears (Audio Playback has overloaded.........). No virtual instruments are activated!

This was occurring while running on DP 4.6 and OS 10.4.2. So, I deleted all DP folders and all prefs (that I knew of), including all MIDI and audio files, folders, prefs, and etc. from the entire computer. I then did a clean re-install of all apps including the updated DP4.61; also a clean install of all drivers (MIDI and audio) and updated to Mac OS 10.4.3. Still, the same problem occurred.

Any suggestions?

Max DP out to the "caf-orama" setting or go up to I think it's 99 voices and see what happens....

Have you tried your buffer size settings.

I Have the same problem... tried many different buffer setting with no good result... I made a lot of reserch on this forum and had a couple discussion (via email) with MOTU technical and still no answer.

I'm at the point that the problem is in DP itself! I keep searching!!

Its possible that there is some kind of blockage with the firewire bus speed. Sometimes that happens to me with my firefaces where they will start randomly acting up and spiking dp's cpu, then minutes later everythings fine. I am going to try a pci firewire card and see what happens.

Have you tried disabling all MIDI/audio interfaces (using built-in sound) to see if the problem goes away?
