So there was a blowout sale on EZX Rock! and so I went ahead and jumped on it. I saw no indication that it would not work with EZ Drummer 1. I own and have installed on my Mac both EZ Drummer 1.3.3 and Superior Drummer 2.3.2. When I ran the EZX Rock! installer I got the following message: "Software Update Required - You need to upgrade your Toontrack software to the latest version before you can install this product."
So am I right to understand that EZX Rock! is not compatible with either of my Toontrack products... even Superior Drummer 2?? It really was not made clear at the retailer's site or anywhere else for that matter that this EZX would not work with either EZ1 or SD2. I wrote to Toontrack about this. I hope I do not have to update to EZ2 just to use this EZX.

Even though they just revamped their site, they might still have the prior version download available. It seemed as though I encountered a few legacy installs when I was upgrading recently.
Although....now you have the perfect excuse to upgrade to EZDrummer 2. It's killer!! The new kits included are worth the price alone. And you should grab Metal Machine and Rock Solid while they're still on sale..... then you'd be set and would not need another drum VI EVER!
After all, you OWE it to yourself. You've been good this year! And the percentage of forum catfights is way, way down.

Well honestly, I just plain am not able to throw more money at the problem right now. I'm really surprised even SD2 can't read this. Even if it can, the installer is crippled. I'm going to look to see if I can find the old version for download and make due for now.
No old version. I started the download and it looks to be exactly the same one I have before. I'll wait to hear back from Toontrack. I think a big "Not compatible with EZ Drummer 1" needs to be on the product page.
I got Rock! before the upgrade to EZ Drummer 2 - and of course it worked with EZ Drummer 1 - but the upgrade also entailed downloading a new version of Rock! - this should not have happened to you. So they should sort it out - the updated Rock! still works with Superior so not sure why it doesn't work for you. Its a bummer but I think they will sort it out for you - if you are a registered EZ Drummer 1 and Superior Drummer user they must be able to let you download the old version. Hey if the worst comes to the worse I can go back in Time Machine and get the old version to you somehow. But try the website for Toontrack and get on the forum/support. I am sure they will sort it out.

Thanks. That was my understanding. I figured at the very least it would work with Superior 2 which I already own. It's the silly installer that is blocking it and perhaps it's not checking for the presence of SD2 and only for EZD2? I don't want to mess with trying to fool the installer here as the whole scheme of how Toontrack products find the samples if they're on a different drive makes me nervous.
I already started a tech support ticket with Toontrack. I got an email confirming they received my inquiry, but they say in it that due to the launch of EZD2 it will take 24 to 48 hours to respond. Given that it's Friday, it might not be till Monday.
If worst comes to worst we'll talk about the other option. I would be happy to let you log-in to my Toontrack account and verify for yourself that I'm a registered owner of EZX Rock. I know that's not proper channels, but I'm just not ready to fork over the $99 for the upgrade to EZD2 yet.

+1
I bought my version of Rock! just before EZDrummer 2 came out and it installed and worked fine, and worked/still works in Superior. I can't imagine they'll go too long without fixing this as I'm quite sure your situation is not unique. They do have quite a lot on their plate so can see how this might have slipped through the cracks.
Sorry you're going through this, James, nothing kills an anticipatory buzz than wasting half a day trying to get something to work.

They got back to me in a couple of days with my query on why the new Pop/Rock EZX that comes with EZD2 did not work with Superior - to tell me they are fixing this with an update to Superior (2.4. coming soon). So they will get back to you probably after the weekend - a bummer to have to wait but it will be okay. But the other option is open if necessary - no problems with trust issues on my part. On my Toontrack account I can still download EZ Drummer 1 so clearly it still exists to be supported - Rock! EZX seems to only have one version. Maybe you could try downloading EZ Drummer 1 and installing that and then installing Rock!. With Time Machine and backups it may be possible to try that without doing too much damage - although Superior should work with Rock! and I didn't re-install Superior. So maybe its an EZ Drummer issue with the installer.

Thanks for the offer. I'll probably just wait till I hear from them so I don't goof anything up. Really looking forward to getting some kits that work better for hard rock!
Just to post an update, indeed the EZX should have worked. I did get a response from Tech Support and this is what fixed it:
Please download the latest Superior 2.3.2 update and first use the uninstaller, then reinstall this update. If the issue persists please let us know and we will need to forward the issue to our programmers.
Now it's all working fine, although I still have am using a EZ Drummer folder nexted within another EZ Drummer folder as I mentioned earlier, but hey... I have some new drum sounds and I like them. At some point I'll go for EZ Drummer 2.

James and other Superior Drummer users - please not that Toontrack have just posted the update to Superior Drummer 2.4 on their website - go to your account and you will see it flagged as an update. This in theory should help those of us with both EZD2 and Superior, to use the new Pop/Rock EZX that came with EZD2 with Superior Drummer from now on. However this update is not a new version of Superior with features like EZD2 - that will be some time in coming.

Wow! They must have JUST posted that up last night! I'll go get it. Thanks for the heads up!
It now works fine for me and I got all my old pre-sets back. I lost them when I upgraded to EZD2 as Superior did not "see" the Pop/Rock EZX which replaced the original EZD1 drum kits.
