Disc in dvd drive affecting cpu performance

Post by jazzylee77 »

This may be completely limited to my setup, but this is what I just discovered.

I was suffering the dreaded pops and dropouts from my CPU going red.(posted about it here http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 58#p478503)

And I happened to hear a disc spinning up in my dvd drive about the same time there was an audio drop and CPU redline.

Removed the dvd and shazamm! :woohoo: CPU idles nice and low playing back the same audio that was unlistenable before.

After trying all the different combinations of settings and ASIO drivers, it turned out to be this. Well I hope it isn't coincidence... I'll give things a good workout now and see if it holds steady.

I can't swear right now whether the disc thing is related to DP8 or if it was always there sucking the life out of my puter. But I left that disc in a couple weeks ago and hadn't noticed anything unusual.

Oh and it's DP8 - Windows7 Athlon II X2 215 2.7 GHz 4GB RAM 64bit.

I may have to break down and put that in my sig
DP8 - Windows 10 - i7 4ghz - 32 GB RAM - All Internal SSD harmonica with only one broken reed, lava lamp, cordless drill

Yeah, that's pretty common. When there's a disc in the drive, often the computer is working really hard to check up on it. At least, that's what it seems like.
