Ok, had a really strange thing happen to my 2009 MacBook after downloading
and installing the latest MOTU Universal Audio software update. Installed it,
restarted as instructed...Macbook booted to the Disk Utility screen, and I
had three options - "Restore from Time Machine backup", "Re-install OSX" and
"Disk Utility". No other options. I chose to download and re-install OSX
Mountain Lion (which is what my MacBook was/is currently running)...waited
three hours for the download to finish, MacBook restarted, the "Installing
OSX Mountain Lion" splash screen appeared, progress bar got to 4 minutes
remaining, then the message "Install failure. OSX Mountain Lion failed to install. The disk appears to be damaged".
Back to Disk Utility, repaired the hard drive, verified, it reported ok.
Tried re-starting in safe mode, no joy, just got a screen with the flashing
"folder plus question mark" icon. Powered down, re-booted, back to the
Utilities screen, chose to download and re-install OSX Mountain Lion again.
This time, the package downloaded, and the installer ran successfully and
I'm back in business.
I don't know if this mess happened because of the MOTU Audio installer, or
the installation of that and the failure were just coincidental. I would
hate to think it was the MOTU Audio Installer's fault. But I posted just to
let everyone know anyway. Gonna call MOTU in the morning.
