Terminal is not only powerful but incredibly useful. It is a good idea to keep commonly used commands in a Text document as Terminal supports copy and paste. Syntax, spacing and capitalization are all critical.

A great command to know is the following:

killall Finder

This normally takes the place of rebooting and leaves most applications alone including Time Machine backups in progress.
