Request for Tips: switching from 48-96 (a newbie moment)

Post by orange »

Hi everyone,

Since I haven't found anything so far specifically addresing this question, i'll post: does anyone have specific tips on how to switch a project from 48 to 96 mid stream.

I have done a lot of MIDI programming and all the analog tracks are placeholder, so i do not mind "losing" them as they need to be re-recorded.

I know the basic step of set up in DP. But when I tried to do it on one particular file, I got something of a hiccup loading one of my plug ins which was claiming something to the tune of that there wasn't enough space (or possible allocation of space) for the higher resolution samples. So I think i could use some guidance on what to look out for and be sure to do when making this transition.

My basic set up follows below. Any tips/guidelines are much appreciated. Thanks!

Orange
Dual Processor 2.5 gHz Mac G5 w/ 4.5 GB Ram
Moto 828 Mk II
Digital Performer 4.5 etc.
Plug ins include: Bosendorfer , Stylus RMX w/ Backbeat expansion, Trilogy, Amplitupe, etc.
Dan Alexander Dual Class A Mic Pre
Korg M1 for a MIDI controller
Maxtor 250 GB external firewire drive w/ 8MB buffer
160 GB internal drive (which came with the G5)
Event 20/20BAS monitors
Monster Power Pr 3500 and Furman PL PLus power conditioners
APC Smart UPS battery back ups
