Mach5 Sharing
Hello!
I am sharing a project back and forth with a buddy. We are both using DP8.05. The project uses Mach5 v.2 with many different soft synths and samples loaded into Mach5. I have Mach5; my buddy does not.
Every time I get the project back from my buddy, none of the soft synths and samples are still loaded into Mach5. I have to manually re-assign everything. He gets an error message on his end upon opening the project that basically says Mach5 is missing. He clicks OK.
Is there a way around this? Can I save the Mach5 configuration and re-load it when I get the project back from my buddy? It's a real drag to re-load everything every day!!
Thanks!
Aaron

Re: Mach5 Sharing
This is really a question for MOTU support, I would think.
By clicking OK, DP is accepting that MV3 is missing and save settings accordingly.
The only workaround I can see is for you to Save As and give your buddy a version of the project without MV3. Either that or you send a rough mix - see below.
I do something like this this when sending tracks to others for overdubs. I'll send the rhythm track, scratch vocal and little else, maybe an important lead line of it's a keeper. Normally I send as a stereo mix plus a click track. When I get it back, I now import the new tracks into the project.
If, however, he needs to mix and edit and then you want to tweak MV3, I don't see a workaround. He needs his own copy or you need to keep on doing what you're doing.
I wrote a piece in the MachFive thread on the least expensive legitimate way to get into MV3 by playing the cross grade game. I will update it this morning after breakfast - its now even easier and benefits MOTUNation a little. I should have it up in an an hour.

Re: Mach5 Sharing
I don't think you will get a totally seamless way to do it.
Here's a thought: if you put Mach 5 in a v-rack, you could save the project with the vrack, then remove the vrack and use "save a copy as" and send that to your friend. When it comes back you could use the Load function to pull in the v-rack from the project version that contains the v-rack.
Along the same lines, you can use the Load function to pull in elements of the project your friend sends to you, into your version that has Mach 5 in it.

I like both of those, too but I'm pretty certain that you're right. There's just no seamless way to do this.bayswater wrote:I don't think you will get a totally seamless way to do it.

I updated the Competetitive Crossgrade Questions. Most of us have something that qualifies and, if not, there's Main Stage.

Wouldn't you expect MOTU to update their version of the cross grade list to require Logic with EXS 24? Seems odd that one list costs you $170 more than the other.mikehalloran wrote:I updated the Competetitive Crossgrade Questions. Ever clipped a $19.95 oil change coupon? When I was working in that business, it didn't matter whose name was on that coupon, I was going to honor it. The important thing was for me to get you as a customer.Wouldn't you expect MOTU to update their version of the cross grade list to require Logic with EXS 24? The object of a crossgrade is to get you to spend money. How much or how little you spent to get there doesn't matter. In my case, I owned Logic Studio 8. upgraded to 9. I spent a hell of a lot more $ than the price of Main Stage. MOTU only sees the upgrade to MV3.
Another way to look at it: "You are using a product with a sampler (in this case, ESX24). Please try ours for a reduced price!" Otherwise, they might not.
Whether you have ESX24 from MainStage, Logic Pro X, Logic Studio, Emagic, maybe even CLab... as long as you are buying the MachFive3 Upgrade, you are spending money with MOTU.
And that's why they do it.

Re: Mach5 Sharing
Mike,
Just saying the list at Sweetwater has always been the list at MOTU. Looks to me like MOTU has updated the list, but not their site (yet). So anyone who hopes to get the crossfade price for Mach Five using MainStage should move fast.
I'll add: Now I have the Keylab 61, I'm using Autosampler to get usable patches from my hardware synths and keyboards into Mach Five. What a great alternative Mach Five is to my former pile of synths (As someone here said, priceless vintage equipment currently valued in dozens of dollars)

Re: Mach5 Sharing
Until I read the Sweatwater list about a year and a half ago, I didn't know that I could take advantage of the crossgrade. Why? I didn't know that ESX24 was a part of Logic Studio and that I owned a copy. I only use Logic to convert GB and Logic files - I never explored any other part of that 11Lb brick (I weighed it) that was Logic Studio 8.Just saying the list at Sweetwater has always been the list at MOTU.
Anyway, it's a moot point. People have been buying Main Stage and taking advantage of the cross-grade. You are over-thinking the issue. I explained exactly what's going on. It is happening.
