Omnisphere - what have I done?

Post by Gravity Jim »

It looks like it will take me the rest of my life just to audition the presets in Omnisphere.

Holy smoke.

Ha... that's right Jim. Just wait until you learn how to program it. Better tell the wife you'll see her in a few months.

It's gotten to the point where I purposely avoid Omnisphere if I'm trying to finish a song, because I know it will take me off in the weeds.

It's incredible. Also found out that asking a question of Spectrasonics CSR's gets a lightning fast reponse and complete follow-through.

I've got it running great now, and I'm looking forward to using the layering/stacking/split stuff. Not to mention this little iPad app they give you to control it.... Awesome!

Yeah, don't listen to the demos. That what got me.

I will never have to buy another synth. Between my hardware, the Arturia stuff, Ni Massive and this... well, it's endless. But I can see that Omnisphere would be all the synth one might ever need all by itself.

I've avoided Omnisphere because of its reputation of heavy resource demands but I'm thinking of getting Alchemy as I just got a deal on the Stokhausen group buy and several choices are made for Alchemy.
Maybe my next Mac will be able to handle Omnisphere but I think a '08 Quad MacPro would be hard pressed to run this gem of a SoftSynth, seems like Omni is in a class of it's own, hopefully soon,it will be added to the arsenal.

It only hogs the heck out of the CPUs with certain patches... others don't seem to hit it any harder than any other VI. But you may be right... With some patches, it taxes my '08 8-core. So while a lot of it would probably run fine on a quad, you might get full use from the engine.

I'm currently scoring a Techno Multimedia Show. 25 2mins cues. About 80% of it is done with Omnisphere AND Stylus RMX...

Been working hard on this since Monday. The 25 cues are all chunks in the same DP project. There's 1-2 Omnisphere and 1 Stylus instance on every chunk.

No Hiccups nor Crash.

And See my sig, my computer is far from being on the bleeding edge of technology. This DP8.04 64 Bits seems to have fixed almost EVERYTHING for me. I'm a happy camper... 8)

After spending some time with it today, I should amend my comment above to say that MOST patches don't load down the CPUs any more (or even less) than any other VI. I suppose if you get into radical stacking it might be a different story, but that remains to be seen.
