Re: Using new Mac laptop to run studio?
I know you're looking at a portable, but my 2011 Mac mini is significantly faster than my quad core 2006 Mac Pro. Feels faster in just about every way. And it sucks way less power as well! It handles my DP work with ease. Pretty much anything in the current Mac lineup will be a significant upgrade for you. Just find a machine that has the ports that you need, and you should be fine.

Appreciate the continued input everyone. Excited to take tne plunge after I see if Apple drops the current prices a bit. But my lawn tractor has bitten the dust and may make a financial detour necessary. Grrrr...

A Caveat:
If you push a MBP hard at all, you will invoke the dreaded fans and their accompanying noise. This is def a problem recording quieter tracks, esp if you have a one room studio like mine (detached building).
I'm almost done with an isolation box (with cooling) and I'll post pics if it turns out to be successful, but it's kind of awkward.
