Dell Inspiron 7720 + MOTU 828 Mk2 USB = FAIL!

Post by javiperera »

Hi everybody!

I have this problem: I recently bought a secondhand 828 MKII USB, and my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7720, Win 7 64 bits. I installed the drivers, but when I run my DAW and select the MOTU Asio, a "blue screen" appears:

Also, when I try to get into CueMixFX or checking the Audio Output via Control Pannel, my laptop freezes.

I installed it in a Acer Aspire X3300 computer in order to check that it wasn't a MOTU's issue. Surprisingly, it worked 100% on the Acer, so it must be a problem with my laptop, I think.

Anybody has the same problem as me? If so, has anyone fixed it?

Thank you in advance.

Just in case you haven't... I'd also perhaps contact MOTU tech support and see if they can help as well. :)

Well, maybe I am a complete noob for this, but I don't know how to do that. I registered at MOTU.com and tried to register the MKII, but it is a secondhand one, so it's already registered to its owner. In addition, there's not a direct e-mail address to the tech support.

Yeah, I know, I totally sound like a noob. My bad. :(

Hmmm... that's too bad. Maybe call tech support early in the morning and they can fix you up. Just call early as the line is busy. 617-576-3066

You're welcome to copy/paste the crash dumps from C:\Windows\Minidump to any other directory, zip or rar them, then upload somewhere. Paste a link here and I'll have a look.

Make sure you're using a 2.0 port, not USB 3.0.

I'm using USB 3.0 port. In fact, my laptop doesn't have any USB 2.0 port, but it doesn't have to make any problem, does it?

By the way, here it is the "Minidump" file:

See this driver? --- iusb3xhc.sys

That is the problem. It is the USB 3.0 driver. Perhaps it is instead MOTU that must fix the problem.

Your current version:

Code: Select all

0: kd> lmvm iusb3xhc
start end module name
fffff880`04d15000 fffff880`04dd9000 iusb3xhc T (no symbols)
    Loaded symbol image file: iusb3xhc.sys
    Image path: \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\iusb3xhc.sys
    Image name: iusb3xhc.sys
    Timestamp: Mon Feb 27 05:56:53 2012 (4F4B6175)
    CheckSum: 000C5E11
    ImageSize: 000C4000
    Translations: 0000.04b0 0000.04e4 0409.04b0 0409.04e4
-------------------

Steps to fix your problem:

1) Download and install the latest USB 3.0 driver from Intel and install.
2) If issue persists, then you MUST uninstall the 3.0 driver so the port works as a standard 2.0 port. Then it will not crash anymore. This is temporary until either Intel or MOTU fix the problem.
3) Complain to MOTU and/or Intel as per James above and show them this thread.

------------

Best of luck and please keep us updated on how things are going and whatnot. You can also install the latest motherboard bios AND if it exists, latest USB 3.0 firmware as well.
