DP8 and 828 mk2 help
I'm having trouble getting all my recording up and running. I have a macbook pro with Digital Performer 8 installed. I'm trying to record through my 828 mk2 but I can get no sound. I used Digital Performer 4 but haven't recorded anything since. So I am still somewhat familiar with the DP interface. I'm trying to use a drum machine through the 828 mk2 but cannot hear any sound. Any help would be appreciated. Also if you need more information please ask. Thank you for your time and attention.

Have you installed the latest MOTU drivers for the 828? Download from MOTU.com and install, then select the 828mkII as your audio interface in DP. Assign I/O in the Bundles window.

Re: DP8 and 828 mk2 help
As mentioned above, having the latest drivers installed is the first step.azeitlow1 wrote:I'm having trouble getting all my recording up and running. My 828 mkll works as expected with DP 8.0.4.
Are you seeing/hearing signal in the 828 mkll itself? (LED meters on interface? Audio via headphones?)
In DP have you Configured the Hardware Driver?
In the Tracks window, is the Input monitor on (blur speaker) or the Rec on (red arrow)???
Just asking to help you figure out where the break down is.

Re: DP8 and 828 mk2 help
I have installed all the latest drivers. Dp8 recognizes the 828 in all my input and outout selections for the tracks. Also the record and playback are selected. The led shows on the 828 but no sound via the headphones. The Mac also recognizes sound from the 828 in the system preferences but says no audio.

What is the "Phones Assign" set to in the MOTU Audio Set up box that should appear when you turn on the 828? Mine is set to Main Out 1-2azeitlow1 wrote:I have installed all the latest drivers. Is the front panel headphone volume knob turned up on the 828?
Have you opened up Cue Mix? Do you see input and output signal there?

Re: DP8 and 828 mk2 help
I think I may have found the problem, in audio devices in digital performer we have no volume and cannot turn volume on. I don't know what would cause this.
The phones were setup as main out as you mentioned before.
I don't have cue mix or have never used it.

Re: DP8 and 828 mk2 help
Having no volume control in the Audio Devices window has no bearing.
Do you have the "Enable Core Audio Volume Controls" box checked in the MOTU Audio Setup?
What is your Input Monitoring Mode setting set to in DP?
And yes, you do have CueMix, it is part of the driver installation. CueMix isss your 828, not some throw-in DAW. Common-misconception. You should get familiar with it. W/O it, you aren't utilizing your 828 completely...

Re: DP8 and 828 mk2 help
There's your problem.azeitlow1 wrote:I don't have cue mix or have never used it.
You do have it, it comes with the 828, or you can download it free from MOTUs site. CueMix is the monitoring interface for the 828 and all MOTU hardware products. It won't effect what goes in/comes out of DP8, but it dictates what YOU can hear through the unit itself. I would say CueMix is A NECESSITY, and should be considered an integral part of the 828 driver/setup software.
Now, it won't fix any problems with playback within DP8, that's a different issue... could be any number of things. First, go through all your MOTU Setup Window options. As someone mentioned earlier, it could be a headphone assign issue. For the most part, I leave the phones set to be a mirror of the Main L-R outs. I only assign them as a separate output when I need to provide multiple monitor mixes. Much easier to leave them set to main out mirroring for most cases.
Second thing to check is, are you seeing levels in DP8? Create a Master Fader (just for test purposes), and make sure the output isn't italic, and the meter is dancing. You should have it set to Main Output 1-2, while the headphones are mirroring this output. I believe this is the default, and if so, routing DP to "Phones 1-2" may not work properly. However, for volume level purposes on the 828, the "Phones Level" will always change the volume for the phone jack, regardless of how the internal routing is set, "Main Level" is for the L-R main jacks, respectively.
Whatever the problem is, the first two places you should be looking at is your MOTU Setup Window (828 tab), and secondly, your DP8 "Hardware Setup" window. Other than that, it's probably some obvious little thing like the volume is turned down or they're a bad connection. If it is, don't be surprised, the most seasoned of professionals are fooled more by rudimentary problems than by advanced ones... there's just more of them to keep track of!
But do verse yourself in CueMix, regardless.

Re: DP8 and 828 mk2 help
I cannot see any input signals in Cuemix. I'm really stuck with what to do in cuemix too. I've got volume in the headphones through the output on the 828 itself but still no sound from the macbook. I cannot see a signal or hear sound in DP. Ive tried all of the suggestions such as hardware configs and the input outputs but still no sound.
