I have done many sessions at 88.2 24bit 8 to 12 tracks on my 1.5mHz laptop / 896 with lightpipe feeding the extra 4. It does get tricky with the settings when recording all tracks at once, but 8 tracks is no problem. Real smooth and very nice sounding.

Trick is you need to place your firewire drive in between the laptop and the 896HD (or 828 mkii in your case) I wouldn't trust a USB to handle that kind of audio. Next I will try a 800 firewire drive with the 896HD on the 400 and see if I can get more tracks.

cheers 8)

I never had any problems with a firewire interface/audio drive combo.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'd jump in on this one.

I have a Ti550PB and need a MIDI/audio interface. Want to get the Traveler and run it with Live for MIDI stuff primarily, but would also like to be able to record audio as well. (No longer have my eye on a dedicated MIDI interface box since this includes MIDI ports!)

Will my old machine be able to handle it? I don't think I'll do anything too extensive - probably stereo location most of the time with a few line-ins as well.

TIA.

A few things to try that may help improve the performance of a Powerbook running DP4.x:

1. Disable Pre-Fill Buffers

2. Since you are on a Powerbook, try a 128 buffer setting with Host Buffer Multiplier of 1, or 2, or 3 or 4 times...which gives;

128, 256, 384 and 512 buffers respectively.
