Not necessarily so, from the horses mouth at NAMM. Just more speculation without facts.csiaudio wrote:Here in lies an issue. DP was Mac only and now it's development resources have more than likely been cut in half because of Windows development.
Such as? Seriously, feel free. The ax grinding you're doing is grating on my ears. You describe DP8 as "jacked up" and it's funny that it hasn't been my experience, but if you think so you must pronounce it so. Your post here reminds me that some non-useful criticism belongs in the OT/Griping forum when the point is obviously just to blow off steam....or sadly I will have to jump ship to something that is more functional....so I can work properly.

Lucky for me, I haven't had the need to jump to DP8.
I bought it and tried it for about a week.
It now sits on my shelf.
7.24 is humming along and working great.
I figure it usually takes about a year or so for the beta cruise.
I'm expecting a great new DP8 around August.
I have high confidence in MOTU.
They always come through.

Look, we all know that when DP 8.new is fixed up, it'll be worth waiting for! You want to use inferior product?
In the meantime, DP 7.24 is still a killer program, and I'd rather use that than anything else. We all lived fine without 64 bit possibilities up to now 'somehow'.
MOTU has to deal with all of Apple's changes in programming, I'm sure...... like no more QuickTime support, etc. etc...... that's a big mess for sure.

I am one of those who still use 7.24 for projects begun in earlier versions and 8.01 for new projects.
There are a couple of exceptions. One is the re-working of a project that I began in 4.61, worked extensively in 5.13 that won't work properly in 7 past 7.01 - no idea why and neither does MOTU suport. I was completely surprised when I double-clicked on it and it opened it in 8.01 working properly - now I can finish it for the new album without the workarounds I was going through in 7.24.

Re: Rollin' into April and still no 8.1...grrrrrrr
I agree that the extreme delay in releasing the Windows version, after showing it "running" well over a year ago at NAMM, is an embarrassment for MOTU, and not one that has gone unnoticed by the potential user base.
However, as this discussion has continued, it is becoming based in a "fact" something that isn't true: that the current version of DP8 is fatally flawed and makes real work impossible, that anyone who needs the software is still running 7-point-something, etc.
DP8 runs perfectly well on my system, and the systems of others, many of whom are member of this forum. I installed DP8, booted it in 64-bit mode, discarded DP7 and ran only 64-bit plug-ins, waiting for the slower plug makers to come up to speed rather than bridge the system (keeping in mind that MOTU said they wouldn't bridge the system because of instability, a fact I had seen first hand with Logic's built-in 32-bit bridge).
8.0 had some minor UI problems that were fixed in 8.01, and I have been doing real work, for money every day in Digital Performer 8 since its release. It doesn't hang or crash, take crazy long to save or load files, choke on VIs, or any of the things that would it me in line to bash MOTU.
I'm not claiming to be a better operator or to be running a more buttoned-up studio, and I'm not faulting anyone is who is still having problems. But I do know this: computers are very complicated devices, which we place greater and greater demands on all the time, and if I had a dollar for every time I went Rambo on a software company when it eventually turned out to be either operator error or a conflict with some obscure aspect of my system, the pile of bills would pay for my eventual upgrade to DP9.
Problem solving requires that you take all the information into consideration, and this discussion is missing a big chunk, i.e.; DP 8.01 works great for many, many users.

True to some degree. But updates shouldn't break features that worked before - like working in movies or exporting the same using preexisting features. That is a very great concern.

I have not run into any show stoppers in DP8 yet but There are a few things I may not have done. Some people say that movies do not play well in DP8, I have no issues with them and like the way DP 8 plays movies.
I think MOTU jumped the gun saying it works on Windows, it would have been smarter saying that they were working on making it work on Windows. It maybe that they had it working on Windows and then came the Windows update. I use Windows XP and 7 for a living, 7 is full of bugs.

Last contact with MOTU on a tech support
I was told they are extremely close -perhaps within a week (that was this past week. Of course, that might not happen, but they can sit on their hands forever. Maybe we should start a pool? Just for fun.
I'll bet 10 to 1 odds that we have a release by the end of this coming week. That would be May 3.
