Can't open a session uploaded to Google drive. error -193

Post by wonder »

i have a session about 2 gigs in size (sdII files) from my studio computer.
i want to edit at home so I uploaded to my google drive.

when I tried to open the session i get the "error -193, Resource can't be found" message and it wont open.

i tried dragging the audio files onto the desktop and opening DP. It opened and gave me the "missing sound files" window.

When i went to locate the missing files, it wouldn't let me import any of the sdII files. Interestingly enough, there were some WAV files (from Superior Drummer) that located fine.

Wondering what's going on here. Other sessions on my laptop work fine (that I either copied from a hard drive or created from scratch on the laptop).

Possibly some metadata or something is missing in the sdII files?

any help is appreciated.

Zip/archive the session before uploading.

Buy an 8g thumb drive for less than $10. Dump the session onto it. take it home and plug it in.

My thoughts,

I have plenty of thumb drives. I was ill and couldn't get to studio and was seeking a solution for such a time as stated.

You'll still have to zip the session or format the thumb drive to HFS+. Anytime you copy Mac files to FAT formatted drives (thumb or othwerwise), you drop the resource forks. Your best bet is to give up working in SDII files - use AIFF or better yet WAV, they don't rely on resource forks.

Is there ANY advantage to using SDII files?

No - it's an outdated format with no future. It arrived with Sound Designer and was briefly the standard, but has since been deprecated across all platforms and apps.
