pitch correction oddity

I have been working on pitch correction. First question: When dealing with take files, what is the best practice, working on the comp or the individual takes? Yesterday, it seemed I couldn't work on the comp. Today, it was going okay working on a comp track until one point. I dragged the bars and they duplicated but the wave form stayed where it was. I even quit and restarted and it did the same thing in the same place.
