DP Love and WAVES TUNE question/problem..

Post by Radiogal »

WAVES TUNE not showing notes under C1.. anyone?

I´ve owned it for as long as it excits, but never used it. I always use DP pitch and Loooove it!!

BUUUUUT!!! I wanted to try out WT today and see what this plugin can do and if I somehow could make it useful in my workflow. I´m thinking of using it as a stereo pitch fixer on an AUX track for multiple mic recordings on the same instrument.

I tried to tune an upright bass (stereo mic recording) that was played in the C0 and C1 area.
WAVES TUNE did scan, but many notes did not show up at all. Only the top notes where drawn and left all the others in the dark.
Unfortunately I can´t make WAVES TUNE to see nor show the notes at C1 or below eventhough the whole area is selected.
DP pitch is showing these notes correctly and I can pitch them from there.
But in the WavesTune I can´t.

What am i doing wrong? Any suggestions?
I checked and searched the owners manual and Internet without luck.
Can anyone reproduce this problem??
Thanks

Yes - ditch Tune. I think it's been discontinued, or at least abandoned,
like Waves GTR plug-in was.

I got as part of upgrading to Waves 7, way back, and tried it out for
10 minutes and thought it sucked.

I just had to be WUPed again recently. At least now they give you a credit against future purchases for a limited time and limited by what you buy.

Better than nothin'...

The limits being only the limitations of the limits of the limitations of the limited WUP limitations?

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Maybe you didn't. I think they threw it in to various bundles as a "bonus" at upgrade time. That's how I got it.

... and then they get it back because you have more plugins and your WUP fee goes up.

Wow, what a different experience of Tune than I've had. It's been truly a companion piece to Auto-Tune. I have corrected hundreds of tracks with Tune that were more transparent than the industry standard Auto-Tune. There have been countless times for me where Tune has been the most transparent of all pitch correction tools I have (yes, that includes DP's option).

I wouldn't want to be without it. I'm not entirely sure why the rest of you have found it "undesirable". Maybe th company Waves itself?

It certainly can't be the tool itself. I've proven over and over to myself that it is the best, most transparent of the pitch-correction-lot on many occasions.

Please tell me why the tool itself has been inferior... Then maybe I can understand the hate...

My experience has been that Waves Tune doesn't always catch all of the notes, especially in the lower registers.
With that said, I use the plug-in all of the time for subtle and radical effects and love it.
I find that DP's pitch algorithms when used on some harmonically rich material more often than not creates a lot of aliasing effects while leaving the pitch relatively unchanged. MOTU is, IMHO, behind the industry standard in this aspect. Ableton Live, for example is very good at this.
Apple's AUPitch is actually pretty decent, although it does induce a slight delay - click on the 'parameters' triangle for more features.

Well when Melodyne came out I bought it and threw out Auto-Tune as well
as Tune, and have never looked back. As far as I'm concerned the "real" industry standard is Melodyne.

Agreed, Melodyne is the gold standard for natural re-tuning. The ability to retune a note within a chord is pretty insane. Melodyne, Auto-Tune and Waves Tune all get used in my studio, albeit for different things.
