Cntinuous crashes

Post by brolly »

anyone else getting continuous random crashes with dp8.01?

I'm running it in mountain lion & i think i've sent about 15 crash logs to DP today alone.
All that is open is a Kontact 5 with 4 sounds in & an Omnisphere. I have a movie in sync,I'm sketching cues & crash bang wallop all day long.

I'm assuming i no longer have to hold down the 6 & 4 keys on startup as Mountain Lion is 64bit as standard.

You also posted this exact same post in the DP Usage & Techniques forum which I deleted. Please post problem posts in troubleshooting and don't multipost across forums. Thanks. :)

I'm one of those people who almost never have computer troubles. Things just work, for some reason that I've never been able to explain. However, in DP 8.01 I started having some crashes after installing JBridgeM and Slate's FG-X.

I ran permissions repair, and it found about 2 dozen problems related to DP, Core Audio, Plugins, and so forth. It repaired them, and I haven't had the slightest problem since.

I do get crashes but mostly in one film project where the audio and picture came off a PC. Most other projects are Rick solid with very rare problems.

I also ran 'repair permissions' as well.
I know the general consensus id have as few apps open as poss. but i thought with 32 gigs of ram I'd at least be ok with Mail, fetch, safari & iTunes.

I still try not to have any unnecessary apps open while using any program to avoid potential conflicts besides the obvious system demand.

I'm definitely getting more crashes in 8.01 than I did with 8.00. Probably the equivalent of a crash every hour. I've repaired permissions at least 6-8 times.

Virtually all my crashes are in a project that came over from a specific (PC) export. The files I imported from 7.24 and that I started from scratch are truly rock solid in terms of crashes. None! Not one.

Not that there aren't other little fixes that need to be made in the GUI in particular, but otherwise I'm just loving 8.01 with everything in 64 bit.

I had a chat with Lorne at DP & he suggested taking out the movie {which is a pain as I don't use consolidated windows} & that helps. Also removing kontakt from within DP helps as well.
The crash rate drops right down. so right now I have the movie running to put in markers & build a tempo map them I clear it.

"Removing Kontakt from within DP"? Oh crapadoodledoo, what does THAT mean???

Does Kontakt have some kind of problem with DP8 unless you route it through VE/plogue or standalone?
