Thanks to both Primemover & Nightwatch for the reassuring info.
I'm seriously thinking about updating to MLion......
I don't use time machine but I do use SuperDuper so I guess if the update screws up my system I can always wipe the boot and copy the SD clone back.
My other bit of apprehension with updating to MLion is my Mac has an ATI Radeon HD 2600 card and wonder if this will work sufficiently with 2 monitors in DP8.01.
Before I try to update I'm going to hook up my 2nd display and see how 2 displays hold up in DP with this card.
Again thanks for giving me a pleasant update on WUPping ;-)

Sync issues re-appear with VE Pro 5 since 8.01

Post by toodamnhip »

I was happy to see DP 8.0 bring a fix to the sync problems between DP 7 and VE Pro 5.
With DP 8, I was able to run VE Pro at 4x buffers and all was well and, as proudly proclaimed at the motunation message board, a new era of power was at hand!!

With the Dp 8.01 update, it seems I am having sync issues again.

Superior Drummer does not seem to properly sync when auditioning loops and neither does NI’s studio drummer when I change VE Pro’s buffer multipkier from “none to 1/2/3 or 4.
. For either to work, I need to have VE Pro’s buffer multiplier set to “none”.
Before the 8.01 update, DP and VE Pro worked fine at 4x buffers. I could audition loops in Superior or NI’s studio drummer and they’d play in sync at any buffer setting in VE Pro 5.

Now I have to run VE at “none for loops to receive sync properly, But doing so adds cpu strain to DP so I like to run VE at 4x.

With 8.01, previous MIDI recorded and Played back in VE has stayed in sync, which is an improvement over DP 7. (DP 7 would completely play back out of sync.) So that issue is still fixed. But there seems to be a problem in NI and SUperior at least, in getting sync data from Dp, through VE Pro at any buffer above “none”, in vers. 8.01

I tried the following fixes:
** I went back and uninstalled and re-installed 3 previous versions of VE Pro 5, since the earlier versions did indeed work at 4x buffers to see if the latest VE Pro was the culprit...=no fix
**I kept DP 8.0 in an old folder and therefore, tried DP 8.0 with the latest and the 3 previous versions of VE Pro.= no fix
**I Trashed DPs prefs= no fix
** I did various computer repairs and maintenance routines = no fix.

I am suddenly unable to copy and paste the settings on a given open plug in.
Up to and including DP 8.0, I could always hit command C when a plug in was up and then mess with alternate settings and then paste the prior settings back. I could also paste in automation on the fly.

Basically, copy and paste worked on all plug in windows. Now, I get a little error bleep in my computer speaker and copy and paste are not functioning at all.
Anyone else having this problem in 8.01?

ps.

I can confirm that going back to version 8.0 results in copy and paste working again. Can anyone else replicate this issue in DP 8.01?

I can copy/paste plugin setting from using the buttons in the mixer inserts, but not using the open plugin window.

On your previous message, I seem to be having sync problems in 8.01 with Soundflower -- perhaps the same problem you're having, but maybe it's Soundflower. I don't recall the problem in previous versions of DP.

Not quite correct. At least, not in my experience - there is no way to "leave" the Waves V9 installer on your desktop for later install. Your choice is to click on install Waves V9, at which point the V9 web installer will launch, asking you which products you want to install. Any V8 Waves plugs that have identical equivalents in V9 will be overwritten with the V9 plugs.

In my case (Gold and Masters Bundles), this applies to all of my Waves plugs. Meaning, V9 plugs don't work in 7.24, which I still am working
in about 75% of the time. So, no V9 upgrade for me until UAD goes 64-bit and
I can move to DP8 for good.

My WUP is up in a couple days, but I called Waves last month and updated my licences and was assured that that would let me install V9 when I was ready to do so.

Just wanted to make sure, I AM correct in assuming this to be so?

I am very curious about getting into DP8, but 7.24 is working so well I'd love to just work on music for awhile until the straggling VIs that I use a lot (Miroslav, etc.) are fully compatible, one way (j-bridge) or another.......

Thanks,

Let me just say that, by in large, MLion has been a fairly benign upgrade, as upgrades go. Compared to Tiger and Leopard, there aren't a whole lot of game breaking changes. MLion is mostly a cleanup of Lion, which was a MINOR OS update, having more GUI tweaks than anything else. I think Jaguar (2003) and Leopard (2007, audio system rewrite OMGWTF!) were probably the biggies for the OS X line, since then it's been pretty smooth sailing.

The gestures will screw with you a bit, but you'll learn to love 'em, aside from that, it's pretty much home sweet home. Haven't had any compatibility problems yet.

DP 8.0 can copy and paste from the open plug in windows, which is an integral part of how I work. DP 8.01 cannot. SOmething broke or changed. It would be great if other users could verify this as I already have an email into MOTU about this and confirmation would help on BOTH issues.
Also, does anyone know the procedures for a DEEP clean out of DP 8.01?
I want to go back to 8.0 and I am using the app itself, (which I saved). But the sync issues with VE Pro remain so I am guessing there has been a deeper under-the-hood change that I need to thoroughly remove to go back to DP 8.0

By the way, Vienna has confirmed to me that nothing has been changed in their recent update to warrant sync going out in DP 8.01, thus, it is most likely a DP issue.

PS.
This is a confirmed bug in 8.01 and MOTU is aware of it.
