Looking to Jump ship

Post by lordtom »

And i have a question...

My studio is completly virtual and i currently use logic7. Now when using DP, is it easy to set up a multi instrumtmen with multi outputs in DP? and not anything like Enviroment/audio object/aux tracks etc etc etc in l7..

Also, are there any former Logic Users here on DP? if yes how was the change.

thanks

You don't wait long before posting something like that do yah?
I'm not a former Logic user (I use Logic Express on occassion)
but I am a former Cubase user.
Setting up instruments in DP (4.6) with multiple outputs is fairly
straightforward.
Instrument tracks in DP however is a bit different in that it's a 2track
affair as opposed to Logic/Cubases 1.
Once you get used to that arrangement however it becomes
pretty much second nature.
I won't get into which is better as everyone has there own opinions
about that.
Editing audio in DP is far more flexible/powerful in DP then in Logic, and conversely
Logic has always had more power/flexibility on the MIDI end of things.
At least in my experience anyway.
Adding an aux track in DP is simplicity itself where as in Logic, I find
it to be a rather convoluted affair.
Dp has alot of Protools like audio editing functionality, the automation
is similar as well.
Of course DP also has pitch automation which is quite amazing.
Polar for building loops....on and on and on.
I prefer Quickscribe in DP as well over Logics score editor..
Mind you I've heard many people complain about the weaknesses of
both.
Quickscribe suits my needs though.
Questions?

Hey, thanks for that man. you mention a 2 track affair for setting up Virtuals, is it possible to hide one of those tracks when mixing...

2. Logic 7 has a feature for mixing down all audio instrumt tracks to audio in 1 pass. Is it as simple in DP..

Thanks again for the response..

It's fairly simple in DP to freeze instrument tracks BUT it's real time.
One of the very few things in DP I don't like.
In Dp you have to select both the instrument and the MIDI track
(making sure whatever data you want to freeze is selected)
and then select freeze under the audio menu and your off to the races.
You can select and freeze specific sections of your instrument track
if you like as well.
As for hiding one of the tracks, yes you can in the sequence window.
There's an expand button which gives you a running list of all the
tracks in use.
Deselect one and that hides it.

FYI

In Nuendo if you don't do it in real time, funny things happen with the plugs. Especially UAD-1 compression.

I seem to recall a response from motu on the subject suggesting for
them it would be a timing issue to freeze Faster then real time.

Do you have 4.5?
If so (and you're on Tiger) you need 4.52 at a minimum.
4.6 is up on Motus website.
