DP7 & OSX10.8

Post by lampostudio »

I just purchased a MacPro laptop with OSX10.8 and I can't load my DP7.2 software. Every time I enter the user name and key code it just keeps going back to the same window asking for user name and key code. Is DP7 not compatible with OSX10.8?

Yeah, there's an incompatibility between the installer and OS ML. There are a couple of threads to fix it but I think you may have to boot the machine in target mode and install from a Mac running 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

I'm not sure where the thread is but if you search Mike Halloran's posts you'll find it. He outlined the procedure(s) very well.

If you haven't already, download and apply the 7.24 update and then authorize that version.

Thanks, I tried the 7.24 download and I get the same results. It just keeps asking for the user name and the key code. I am not sure why but the DP7 CD I have has a different key code that the one in the back of the manual. I tried both, no good. I don't mind upgrading to DP8 BUT I have a G5 that that I am running 7.23, OSX 10.5.8. If I upgrade to DP8 I do not believe I can run DP8 on my G5. I do not know if the G5 can run OSX10.8. I would like to use the G5 for in house stuff and the laptop for some mobil stuff. If I track on the laptop in DP8 I don't think it will allow me to open the project in 7.23 on my G5.

Do you have the CD in an external CD ROM drive when you try the authorization? The only key code I've ever seen is the one in the back of the manual.

Yes I have the CD in the drive. I am not really sure how I have two different key codes but only one disk. What is the latest OSX op sys that DP7.24 is compatible with? Perhaps I can install an older op sys on the laptop?

There is a key code printed on the DP 7 disk? That's unusual. It's always in the manual. Did you ask MOTU about it?

(You won't get OS X 10.8 on your G5, but if you have DP 7 on it running under 10.5.8, you should be able to open a project saved from DP 8 running under OS 10.8.2.)

DP CDs do not have a key code.

You could have a permissions issue - this is the most common cause. Repair Permissions normally fixes this. Sometimes, you must find and delete all old AUTH files then repair permissions again. Different OS have various ways of finding hidden files but using Termilal to show them first works in all versions of OSX.

I had that same issue last week when I used a backup CD to reauthorize. I didn't want to open my package so I kept a backup CD handy because of my handicap. In my SuperDrive, 7.24 wouldn't authorize - putting it in the burner that created it worked.

I had restored from Time Machine due to a kernel panic problem caused by some old freeware. Although DP 8 was working, I wanted to open my project up in 7.24. I always had the option of going into my 7 package and snagging the original disk.

I called MOTU today. They assure me that DP7.2.4 will run on OSX10.8. They are sending me a new CD as the tech person felt the issue might be with the disc.
He also advised me that if upgrade my MacBook Pro (OSX10.8) to DP8 and track audio or MIDI with DP8 I will be able to open and work on it on my G5 (OSX 10.5.8) with DP7.2.4
