Could be true since I guess your mac must not have an Altivec in it. On a G5, Altiverb is much less CPU intensive than IR-1. Ironic, though, that on the G5 one is less concerned about CPU anyway
A G4 has Altivec on it..last time I looked
A 2018 Mac mini with 16 gb of ram
HUGE bunch o' AU instruments/fx...
A Metric Halo ULN8-3D…mmmmmmm

I just finished mixing an orchestral piece that was over nine minutes in length, and had about 52 stereo audio tracks and four separate Altiverbs.
Probably 20 DP plugins, and the audio perfomance meter in DP never reached anywhere near half way on the G5 dual 2.0 ghz machine with 3.5 gigs of ram. The massive amount of automation that is in my projects causes far more CPU useage than any amount of Altiverb instances that one could use, IMO.

I am done with this topic. I have no desire to voice my opinion any further about Altiverb.
To each his own.
Dan :)

Well, I'm not done. As Steve always says... "Just one more thing..."

Have any of you actually gone through all those photos and QuicktimeVR movies in the Impulse Response folders of Altiverb? Man, there are some incredible pictures in there. What wonderful spaces! Castles, studios (the one in upstate New York above the wooded mountains is spectacular), cathedrals, concert halls... even a washing machine and a stereo pair of tin cans!!! Cool stuff. No, it doesn't make your mix any better, but it adds to the overall experience of mixing in a simulated space. I just love this plugin!
