What year is your "aging" MacBook Pro? Mine is an Early 2008 (version 4,1). In reading the posts here since DP 8 was available, it seems that the program is video-RAM hungry; it seems to heavily rely on the graphics card more than DP 7. It's my understanding that the older MBPs have fairly limited RAM (video-RAM) for their
graphics card. Also, as example, my "aging" MBP can only hold up to 6 GBs of regular RAM. In the world of audio recording/sequencing (especially when using 64-bit computing), 6 GBs of regular RAM seems to be small now-a-days. I'm wondering if those "aging" MBPs will be up to the task to handle DP 8 reliably. I did upgrade my MBPs RAM to 6 GBs as well as install a 240 GB SSD. When I upgrade to DP 8, I will install it and see if it works on my "aging" MBP.
But. . . I am chomping at the bit to upgrade to DP 8 and install it on my happy 2009 MacPro (specs as noted below). You mention that DP 8 works well on you MacPro. This is encouraging to me!! Curious.
What video-card are you using?
I really enjoy using Digital Performer (currently DP 7) for video-scoring. It meets my very modest needs. I looking forward to DP 8 and using it in 64-bit mode. It seems that most if not all of my plug-ins will work with DP 8 in 64-bit mode. At this point, I'm waiting for the next update for DP 8 before I upgrade. Also, before I upgrade, I want to make sure that my vide-card to my MacPro is up to the task. Hopefully my MacPro's ATI Radeon HD 5770 will be adequate.
By the way, my "aging" MBP makes for a great slave computer to my MacPro, especially for the larger orchestral templets when using DP 7.
Thank you!
