How do you transpose a MIDI track?

Post by MikeInBoston »

Hi everyone. This is my first post on MOTUNATION. I can't figure out how to transpose a MIDI track without changing the data. In Logic Pro, you simply enter a value in the track inspector and it's done. I'd bet that you can do the same thing in DP, but I'm at a loss to find the place to do it.

By the way, being new to DP, I really appreciate this forum, and I look forward to being an active member.

Thanks,
Mike

I can't believe how this changes the whole tone of responses in terms of finding stuff. The only excuse now is no PDF reader.

Hi, Welcome to Motunation.

If you want a non-destructive way to transpose a MIDI track, open the mixer window, make sure your track is selected on the left. Now there are insert slots in the upper portion where you can select non-destructive plug-ins like transpose, quantize, etc.

I found it, guys...in the manual (I didn't realize they were referring to a plug-in the first time I read it). I wasn't expecting it to be a plug-in, but it does the same thing, so I'm happy. DP is awesome, and I think the better I become acquainted with it, the more I'll like it!

Thanks for your help, and for the welcome.

I only asked that question in my wildest dreams. Well, maybe not the wildest ones. The wildest ones usually start with the question: Did you order a pizza?

I think PDF is a perfectly good initialism in it's own right:

The non-destructive transpose is the plugin, the destructive (changes the track) version is in the Region menu.

When I use that window, the transpose amount has to be either typed in or dragged (though either is not exactly lightning fast, but it's ok.

It more than makes up for it by allowing complete note-remapping, custom scales, harmonization mode, and much more.
