How to disable Ethno 1.0.1? Snow Leopard Crashing

Post by pryde »

I just installed all the software on my new 8 core Mac Pro and DP 6.3 crashes when I load it due to Ethno not being compatible. I learned that here but I am not sure how to disable Ethno so I can run Dp. Can anyone please help?

Thanks!

Go to Library/Audio/Plug-ins/Components.

Drag MOTU Ethno Instrument.component to the trash. (Don't empty it yet.)

You should be able to launch DP.

It still tried to load Ethno.

I get the following error:
FATAL ERROR
An unknown executable could not be loaded. Please contact the software publisher for support using this software.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

There is a MAS version as well that you need to remove from the MAS plugin folder

Sorry. MOTU's installers always write both versions to disk and DP installs the MAS version by default. I should have thought of that before jumping in. So, as Mr. Tayler quite rightly suggests,

Go to Library/Audio/Plug-ins/MAS
Drag MOTU Ethno Instrument.bundle to the trash.

It should launch now. I don't think there's another version lurking around somewhere.

Thank you all for the instructions regarding Ethno causing DP to crash. Now - how does one get Ethno BACK??? It's a great program and I want to continue using it. Just got the version 2 upgrade. Followed your instructions, trashed the components, launched DP 7.2.4, and no Ethno. HELP!
